Trades have to be called, faxed or e-mailed to the NHL office by 3 pm. The delay is in finishing the actual trade call, where the league calls the teams involved and verifies the particulars(i.e. that the cap hits work out, if the draft picks are owned by the teams trading them, waiving of any NTC/NMCs, etc). Trade calls generally take ten-thirty minutes

Will check in later, and I expect to see Rusty gone for a 3rd and Homer pulling a rabbit out his hat and improving the D without giving up the young guys.

It's more about a team clicking at the right time than comparing one team to another.
