that would really turn the team upside down I believe, unless you trade Phaneuf.
Your not going to yank the C off a guy and upset the apple cart!!! IMHO
You see he get walked around enough now...imagine if he didn't give a frank anymore!!!
Who cares who's Captain..it's kind of a silly debate..just keep winning!!!! - Garnie
exactly. And Lupul's leading anyway, and he has an A. Not really a difference.
And abosolutely you don't change anything like that now.
That said - and I will preface with I love Lupul and was one of the few who defended the contract and his PPG season as not a flash in the pan but something to be expected from the increased minutes given his past performance with 2nd line minutes....
But - I don't like him with the C either. He just doesn't have "it" - the IT required to be the captain of the Leafs. And Niether does Dion - I'm not making that argument.
but Lupul isn't what I picture as Captain of the Leafs. He's not on the same plain as Mats, Dougie, Wendel.
Problem is there's nobody in the system like that. Until there is, leave it with Dion unless he's traded. Too disruptive to switch and keep him on the team. |

I can't wait until they are forced to blow that miserable team up.
I hope the Sedins screw them and refuse to be traded. - Leeman4Gilmour
Won't be long. 14 guys signed at $64.3m next season (average of $4.59/player), something's gotta give! |

Pretty sure Dion is capable of being captain, his speech at the end as the first star on what he had to say about the fans and the players, was good. Lupul is just as good and thats why hes an assistant. Plus toronto does not change captains up |

They don't seem to realize that a good portion of their second and third lines are hitting free agency, they've got a pay raise for Edler going into effect, with another $2M cap hit increase, and they may have trouble trading Luongo without taking back contract, or swallowing some of Luongo's. Oh, and the cap is dropping by $7M. Edler and the cap drop eats up $10M of the $14M you save by the Luongo/Ballard/Booth moves, and that's assuming they take zero back for Luongo. More likely, they have to get rid of those three just to cover Edler and the cap drop. And still have to fill out their roster with pennies.

Oh and i thought reimer had a weak game, and luu talks have resumed without the talks of gardiner or kadri in any deal with the nucks - Sportsnet - Mapleleafs_91
We finally have a home-grown goalie putting up very solid numbers and the first thing we want to do is run him out of town for the worst contract in hockey?
Not buying it.

I don't think a lot of owners are going to be as warm to this multiple buyouts idea as fans think they'll be. - Jeffmt
exactly... plus a good many of the owners simply won't have that kind spare cash to through around...

Jordan Staal is, these days, WAY overrated by some, and you're one of them, clearly. He's a 55ish point guy, that's all. There was so much talk about how he'd be a point per game guy once he made it out from behind Crosby and Malkin. The thing is, half his time in Pittsburgh, he was playing first and second line, because Malkin or Crosby was injured. He's just a good two way 55 point guy. He's like Grabovksi, basically. - Dirte
maybe...I think he gets 1st line mins with his bro and lots of pp time..he can find the points...Grabo was our best player a couple years ago...playing on the 2nd line while Kessel always has the best players and all the pp time..anyway not here to bash our sniper...just was pointing out what is my opinion..you guys can have yours...I know Staal hasnt missed the playoffs in like 8 years including the OHL.
I hope Kessel scores 40 in the playoffs and we win the cup... |

Kulemin passing that to McClement show what a great team player he is. But it also represents the Leafs. Hard working team that fights for each other! Phaneuf is playing like a captain lately...the leafs are 7-0 when he scores. Lupul is a beast. We have legit top 6 talent in Kessel, Lupul, Kadri, JVR(needs to start scoring). |

Reimer wasn't great because he fell asleep 2 or 4 times while the puck never crossed center ice for huge stretches of the game
He was fine. No Luu please. We're not beating Pens or Boston this year anyway. Rather get a round or 2 of experience in Reimer and Scrivens and look at upgrade options in the summer.

Fancy that, the first year he plays without Crosby and Malkin, the ones that were supposedly holding him back, he misses the playoffs.

agreed. burkies ego was the downfall in his era, not the stamp he made on the team.
if he could've learned to shut his mouth and just make his moves.. things might've worked out fine.
it's the publically committing to his coach, his goalies.. stuff like that. there's just no need. the playoff stuff is just another example. when you have a young team.. squeeking into the playoffs as an 8th seed is a learning block. you create positives from there. - joel878
Exactly, which is why I'd be thrilled by just making an appearance this season. It really doesn't matter to me if they make it past the first round. Oddly though, looking at the other teams in the eastern playoff picture, the Leafs have a decent shot at making it through the first round. |
