Thank you!
That's sort of where I'm at too, though I doubt Steve Yzerman is willing to deal his first rounder at this point given where his team is in the standings. That would be foolish, in my opinion. - Michael_Stuart
Agreed on that, unless you are for sure in the playoffs giving up your first is not a smart move with the new CBA where everyone gets a shot at the No 1 pick if you dont make the post season.
It would have to work salary wise as well. The only salary I see working would be. Malone, Carle, Vinny, Headman, St. Louis. Four of which I cant see Yzerman wanting to give up and one of which Buffalo in this situation would not want, IMO.
Unless Lindback would be a piece coming back. It is interesting to talk about that is for sure. |

The "right price" is always difficult to agree on. - Michael_Stuart
Paul Gaustad = 21st overall in 2012. I think Miller can field something similar or more than Iginla's current rumored trade. A first, a young top 6 and a mid prospect is my guess |

It depends what the price would be. Miller is aging an is on the decline - OilerFanFromBC
I think price is determined by whether or not the rumors of his unhappiness are true. |

I think Yzerman would be more than open to dealing Ryan Malone. You're absolutely right that it is interesting to discuss. |

"A first" is tough to gauge. The Lightning's first is worth a hell of a lot more than the Bruins' first right now. Top 5 vs. bottom 5. |

I can't see wanting Malone back giving the circumstance Buffalo is in. If he was only signed through this year I could see it.
With the cap going down next year, Tampa would have one hell of a time moving salary to get under the cap. That would involve selling parts, which would then make this trade almost not worth it. |

Exactly. No way Yzerman would be stupid enough to give up TB's 1st+ for Miller. |

No doubt. I can't see Buffalo wanting Malone either, and you're right about our cap situation. This trade rumor makes sense in a lot of ways, but not in others. |

Capgeek says we have similar cap space but maybe we take Purcell/Salo/Ohlund back to even out the salary (I have no idea how much lightning fans value those three so forgive me) |

I don't think he goes. Doesn't make sense to deal him with Cooper going on about making the playoffs this season. If he goes, I bet it's in the off-season. - Michael_Stuart
Saying is one thing doing is another. I love Cooper’s attitude but not sure it’s viable. Marty isn’t getting any younger but then again in early 2000 Captain Dave was asked if he wanted to go and he decided to stay. We know what the end result was after that decision. |

Ohlund is injured and probably won't play another game in the NHL. Salo is most likely sticking around. Purcell's a guy I would look at trading for the right deal, and he's worth quite a bit. 60+ point top six forwards don't grow on trees. |

Agreed. I don't know who would be more available from the Lightning's perspective. Then there's the question of whether or not it's worth it for the Lightning to make that sort of deal. Trading a pillar of the future for Miller when Vasilevski will be ready in a few years comes with inherent risk given the fact that these teams will see a lot of each other in future years. - Michael_Stuart
As you stated in your blog. Which was a good blog as usual. Marty only has a few more years left in him. So to try and win now in the next three years or so means you trade for Miller. Im betting Connolly is the one who would likely be going. Vasilevski wont be ready to even compete for atleast three to four years. Unless he just becomes a freak of nature. Which is possible. Would suck to move Connolly for sure. But this is a deep draft and if you keep your first because its Connolly going in the trade. Which IMO means no first is going to Buffalo. You guys could still not make the playoffs and get a good selection or make the playoffs and still get a good selection. Due to the deep draft. |

I think Marty retires here and has his number shipped straight to the rafters. |
