Iginla chose here to play with Crosby, I am fairly confident in saying that. - Gunner Staal
Recognize now...."the Crosby effect" I talked about, remember? I'm sure you do

Who cares I'm a Pens fan. I give no (frank)s about Calgary. If this trade was made for the Caps would you? Yes it was trash but to the victor's go the spoils. Lets Go Pens - dbell646
I completely understand Pens fans being happy (this might have locked up a Cup for you), bu if you are a Pirates fan as well, this should feel a bit like the Yankees "I will take your best player, give you my trash, and you will suck on it and like it" dealings with the AAA clubs which are masquerading as MLB teams. It's just in this case you are not on the sucking end of things. |

Nope. There is a salary cap. Totally different scenarios. There is a limit to what you can take on. The Penguins aren't spending 170M more than another team. |

We are talking about the same GM who took Jankowski with the 21st pick in last year's draft. The kid was supposed to be a late second round pick. Jankowski was totally an off the board pick - more like when LA went with Thomas Hickey a few years back. I wouldn't be confident in Feaster as Pittsburgh's GM. - Oneonta Penguin
IMO, it's obvious to see that Iginla's only REAL choice was Pittsburgh. Clearly the Bruins deal was much better, but in the end it didn't really matter.
Pittsburgh was not going to overpay for a rental player, they put out what they were willing offer and it was accepted. Lucky for them, Iginla really wanted to go there to try and win a cup.
Not going to rip Feaster over this one, his hands were 100% tied and Iggy dictated where he wanted to go. But that's OK too, he earned the right to put himself in that position.
At the end of the day, the deal isn't that great for the Flames. BUT, it's wayyyyyyy better than nothing (*cough* Sundin *Cough*) and they managed to grab a first round pick in a deep draft (and it's not conditional!).
Good luck Iggy!
P.S. On the Jankowski pick, here is a little reading for you....maybe Feaster wasn't so far off?

Is anybody confident about anyone whom Feaster is high on ? - MadCap2008
I don't think anybody believe Feaster is a great GM.....the O'reilly blunder pretty much says it all.
However, this deal had more to do with giving their generational player an early retirement gift for many years of devoted service. It's as classy a move as there is in the swill that has become modern sports. |

Since we have both the Pens and Pirates does that make it a wash then? I mean we deserve something for tolerating the Pirates.... |

A little, but not a lot. If they kept re-sign them all next year and could pay them whatever they wanted then yea. |

It's true! They had to get something...if he left as a FA it would have been a disaster! Iggy wanted Pitt (lucky for you guys) and that's what he got.
Smart move by Shero to hold strong...I think he knew deep down Iggy wanted to go there. I'm sure at some point during all of this Iggy and Crosby had a conversation or two. |

I'm speaking to a weak sister (Calgary) accepting garbage for an asset, not to the salary structure of MLB vs the NHL. |

Not really because this is a rental deal and both sides know it. It's my understanding that Iginla approached Feaster and requested the deal to Pittsburgh. How could you blame Iginla? We are riding a 13 game winning streak without Geno or Letang, and we just added Morrow and Murray. It's clear that the Pens are going for the cup, and going for it now...and that's what Iginla is looking to accomplish. He'll be back in Calgary next year which is why Feaster was willing to part with a late 1st round pick and 2 mid-prospects to part with him for 3 months. |

Beyond that, Calgary and Dallas didn't have enough leverage to force better deals. NMC/NTC severely limited each GM and played into the Pens favor. Moreover, it isn't like RS fleeced either club and plucked away players in their primes. These are both aged vets whose returns were going to be average at best anyway. |

I don't blame Iginla at all - if he thought his best chance to win a Cup was in Pittsburgh, that's completely understandable. I believe he would have had an equal chance in Boston, though, and the Flames presumably would have gotten better return from the Bruins. I haven't heard in all of this - could Iginla have blocked the deal to Boston, or had he offically approved Boston as a landing spot ? |

Shero only said Bylsma will decide. Iginla told them he'd play anywhere they want. I guess it'll be the 1st or 2nd line. Not sure though. Probably safe to say top 6 with Crosby/Kunitz or Malkin/Neal. |
