There is a downside to Pens fans of the terrible year the Flyers are having...
... It appears that as each game passes their chances of landing Jones, McKinnon or Drouin are increasing. Reminds me of the year they landed JVR. |

Hopefully they won't get any of these guys. A 5th pick, I could live with it. |

But he has a 2 way contract, so why just send him down like Despres and call him back up in a bit - drummer829
You run the likely risk of another team claiming him through waivers which he would have to clear. This way, he gets some ice time, opens a roster spot, keeps his NHL salary, and remains in the organization. It works out for everyone. Only rules are, he must agree to it and the NHL must sign off which is what happened. |

I can't believe Jokinen passed waivers. 46 and 52 points in the previous 2 seasons. I'm surprised the devils didn't jump on it with Kovi being injured. I mean if you don't want him on the roster can't you just send him back through waivers, like how Boychuk got bounced around to like 3 different teams in 2 weeks |

I was going to post this now..
Pierre LeBrun @Real_ESPNLeBrun
Spoke with one GM this morning who likes Jokinen and would have taken him if he was a pending UFA. Next year's $3 M on his deal scared teams
He's not bad at all, only his contract is perhaps $1M above what I'd like to pay.
I guess he can be put in re-entry waivers? |

Re-entry waivers don't exist anymore in the new CBA. They'd be perfect for a guy like him though. Someone would grab him at $1.5 mil

I'm out of date I guess I'd love to take him at this price. He'd be our Sykora of 08/09 for the playoffs. |

The callup of Despres makes me feel good about Fleury.
They could have easily used Letang's roster spot for a goalie call up and played with 6 of the d-man that they have. Not ideal, but not the end of the world for a couple games either. |

That, and the fact they let MAF finish the period, if it was bad enough it doesn't matter how much time was left at any point they wouldn't have risked him. |

I would say hold on to that thought, I believe there is a stipulation that a goalie from the minors can be called up to the NHL in an emergency situation without counting against the roster count. If I remember, Ty Conklin or Sabourin were called up this way when Fleury suffered his high ankle sprain a few seasons ago. |

I'm pretty sure I heard that if they call up a backup goalie in emergency situation such as this it doesn't take up a roster spot. Someone check on that |

I think you are right... I cleaned it up a little. This is from the last CBA, but can't image that something like this changed.
16.13 Goaltender Exemption.
(a) On up to two (2) occasions during the course of the Regular Season and Playoffs, each Club will be granted a Goaltender Exemption to its Active Roster limit. Each Goaltender Exemption may last a maximum of forty-eight (48) hours. A goaltender Recalled under this provision will not count against a Club's Active Roster limit. However, for purposes of clarity, the Recalled goaltender's Player Salary and Bonuses will be included in calculating a Club's Actual Club Salary and Averaged Club Salary, and the Players' Share, for purposes of Article 50.
(c) The injured goaltender does not have to be placed on the Injured Reserve List during the forty-eight (48) hour exemption period in order to exercise the Goaltender Exemption.
(g) A Club may use both forty-eight (48) hour Goaltender Exemptions
consecutively, provided that the required forms for the second forty-eight (48) hour Goaltender Exemption must be filed with Central Registry by facsimile, in accordance with Exhibit 3 hereto, prior to the commencement of the second forty-eight (48) hour period.
So basically, they have 4 days that they can call up Zatikoff for. But since the next two games are spaced out, it would take both 48 hour periods.
My only question now is, I know rosters can be expanded after Tuesday, but does that mean Tuesday night? |
