It's still extra picks...Pominville could help a new team pushing for the playoffs (i.e. CBJ) and he could use a change of scenery.

they're only a point out of 8th in the West...while I still don't see them making the playoffs I'm not going to begrudge them a quote like this.

The Phaneuf rumors about being a bad locker room presence aren't really disputed. Doesn't mean that it's a thing endemic to him as a player, but there was clearly a crisis of leadership in Calgary at the time he was dealt. He was especially pissed, reportedly, when Bouwmeester got an A and he didn't (granted, I can take his side on this, but he also conflicted with Regehr and Iginla I guess.) In Toronto, I don't think he has the same problem, he's the undisputed captain as far as I can tell.

that reflects on him in itself. you're a pro, paid big money. you need to be a team guy, and shut the (frank) up if another player gets a letter over you. that's not the players place. that's an ego thing to.

but yeah, don't think the schenn beef in toronto could have had anything to do with leadership. numerous locker room issues does make a person wonder.

JVR/schenn trade looks great for both teams, but it'll take years to pick a winner. either team could look bad for it in the end, or both could look genius.
