Conditional is a fair thing to ask for, though I'd bet they'd want it to be at least a 2nd.

The other option is swapping out tk for Jeffrey if tk is more valuable to you guys.

What kind of dman are you looking for?

- Morris

Veteran Shutdown D to help the PK in the Hal Gill mold. Can be a rental.

TK has more value to our team, definitely.

Conditional 1st + Bortuzzo + Jeffrey.

Edit: We get Iginla + 4th (Shero likes them!)

I can understand why Bylsma and Shero would be leary of doing this. I'm as big a Despres fan as anyone, but there is a big difference between asking a rookie to play top pair minutes in the playoffs vs playing on the bottom pair.
- Emperor Filonius

I understand, but he was arguably our best defenseman in the Philly series last year. There weren't many bright spots in those games, but he was one of them. Plus, if he's one of your best 4-defensemen (which he is), then not playing him would be detrimental to the team to a degree.

He's the most tenured player on the team and a big leader in the locker room. I don't think its realistic that he's going to be moved before the end of his contract. I don't think he's been as bad as he's getting griped about either for that matter. He's only 31, so its not like he's out there with a walker or anything. Getting another shut down guy for the top pair would allow you to keep him playing second pair minutes, which is a role that should suit him nicely.
- Emperor Filonius

I agree that he hasn't been THAT bad, but he has been under performing. I think he would be much better suited as a second pairing Dman, but realistically, the Pens can't afford to sign Malkin, Letang and a shutdown Dman with Orpik on the roster. If Letang doesn't resign and leaves this offseason (praying he doesn't), it changes everything.

Hmmm. Rumours out of Edmonton that the Smid contract talks aren't going well. Wouldn't be surprised to see him on the move.

That has been mentioned here before. He would look great here....but he would demand just as much as Giordano.

You aren't getting Iggy for spare parts. That is what Bortuzzo, Jeffrey and TK are.

I don't want Iggy. I'm sick and tired of repeating myself. He doesn't help our perceived weaknesses. If he was a younger brooks orpik, or throws his weight around on the third line like Clutterbuck, different story. He doesn't.

Giordano, I don't like the cap hit at all. If he were making 3 million, then the rights to TK, Niskanen and a second round pick.

Then we can talk about draft day trades and free agency wishes!!!

Unfortunately the Iginla talk isn't going away until he signs somewhere lol.

This is really selfish... But do you guys realize what would happen to Kris Letang's value if he won the Norris?

I almost don't want him to do so good.

Iggy will be traded, and then go back to Calgary in the offseason. It needs to be a conditional pick for him for in case he doesn't resign.

But he's not needed. Kunitz is awesome, Duper is finishing chances as good as any other sniper (cough**ovechkin**cough). We do need a little more toughness on that 3rd line though.

Also Rossi was talking about pens are looking for a top D partner for Letang...uhh, how about give Despres more than a shift!! Also said Morrow is considered their top overall prospect. I just hope he can make an impact next year in the NHL

If you're his agent, the starting point becomes 6.5-7M (not that it wasn't near there already).

Hmmm. ... Winnipeg has scratched Burmistrov the last two games. His high skill set hasn't translated into many points, but he is solid defensively. Not too long ago he was the eighth pick of the draft. Would he be a possible option for the third line?

The bullpoop with Despres needs to stop. He needs to play. This sheltering him is beyond garbage.

I'm wondering if they want a shutdown type to go along with Letang instead of another puck mover. Could that be a possibility?

Without a Norris trophy, you can argue for around 6 mil, but after a Norris trophy it skyrockets to at least 7 mil. I wonder if Shero can maybe get him to take a little discount. I mean Letang now has a kid and seems to have settled down in the pgh area. He also claims to like playing with Sid and geno so maybe there is a chance he takes a little less. In a couple years when Orpik possibly leaves, Letang will be the veteran/mentor for all of these D prospects we have. He for sure gets the A too

He'd look good in Geno's line but Bennett took it If he is cheap, why not? But I'd rather have a checker/tough guy in there.

Possibly, but we've seen Despres play at times with potential to be a good offensive Dman who can work on the PP and other times make great hits and win puck battles in our zone like a Defensive D man should. He's going to be a prime example of a "2 way defenseman", but at this rate it's going to take 7 years to see that potential because he doesn't play. We have a 10 point lead over NJ in the standings so there's not much to lose by letting him play every game. The team has shown that they win with him in the line up too

Good job burning a year off his ELC for your last place team Darcy. What a trainwreck.

Joe Morrow

How has Joe Morrow been progressing? I saw a prospect analysis on twitter today via NHL Young Guns Daily (@YoungGunsDaily) that compared Morrow to Kulikov from the Panthers. Is that a good comparison? I always thought Morrow had awesome offensive upside...

Also, do you think Morrow could be possibly shipped to Calgary in an Iginla package? I would love to see Iggy play with Sid just like in Vancouver 2010!

Exactly. It's just absurd to read some of these trade proposals.
