he tweeted top 4 D, roster player and pick
aka nisk, tk or jeffrey or burtuzzo and 2nd or 3rd..
but seriously, I think they can manage that trade if they arent asking for a 1st - nh4442
That, right there is too much for Iggy. Very few were going to be in the sweepstakes to begin with. That price eliminates teams. While Calgary has to hit a homer here because he could leave, I guess, he is being viewed as a 35-year old rental that is having an average season. I think the intention is a top four D prospect type, a roster player and a first rounder. That is too much.

apparently despres sucks in DBs eyes - nh4442
We already have one. His name is Despres

It amazes me that the coaching staff still doesn't want to admit that we already have an excellent D-partner for Letang on the current roster in Despres.
Although, I guess I really shouldn't be surprised at this point... - ursomp71
I think you can have the best of both worlds:
Letang-D TBD
Orpik-Martin
Despres-Niskanen
Engelland/Eaton/Bortuzzo spares, although you figure Bortuzzo likely gets moved in a trade.
That's pretty damn solid and it allows Despres to not have the pressure of top pairing minutes....

I dont think there is any way the Pens go after Giordano. He is signed for three more years after this one at 4+ mil/season. They need to resign Geno and Letang. Only way they could take on Gio is if they move salary somewhere else, and I can't think of any large contracts that make sense. Sending Orpik to CGY doesn't and they aren't going to move Martin. |

if we dont give up a 1st and a d prospect then i am all for going after iggy..
nisk burtuzzo jeffrey and tk are all odd men out unless they help bring a solid D back...
ur thoughts on an iggy and gio trade for (insert pens players) |

Use Despres with Letang, if you feel the need to acquire a defenseman, look for a 5th/6th that can play on the PK. |

I think they gotta move Orpik soon (offseason maybe?). He is getting old and isn't playing like the physical/shutdown that the Pens need. |

You aren't getting Iggy for spare parts. That is what Bortuzzo, Jeffrey and TK are.
I don't want Iggy. I'm sick and tired of repeating myself. He doesn't help our perceived weaknesses. If he was a younger brooks orpik, or throws his weight around on the third line like Clutterbuck, different story. He doesn't.
Giordano, I don't like the cap hit at all. If he were making 3 million, then the rights to TK, Niskanen and a second round pick.

Been thinking that as well, very Steeler-esque type thing even if he has been here since the rebuilding began. would be hard to see him go if he had to. |

I'm not opposed to moving him in the offseason at all. Even if you can get a third round pick for him. |

This Iggy talk will be irrelevant if the B's drop another one to the Pens. They need goal scorers and have the cap room (especially if they use Savard's LTIR money. I think they'll pay Calgary's cost if they perceive the Penguins as the threat to their cup chances. |

The problem is Boston's farm system is terrible. Giving up a first round pick and either Spooner or Knight or the Russian, I can't spell his name is a steep price for an organization that normally grooms players as opposed to going out and getting free agents.

The only thing I regret about mario returning was that he hung around for that awful last season long enough for his points per game to drop below Gretzky's. If I remember correctly, his PPG was still over 2 when he retired for the first time in 97.

I feel you....but we have to think that Gretzky hung around for too long as well. Both were great players but Mario will always be the prototypical of the best player, mixing size and skill.
EDIT: Amazed to see Forsberg so high on this list! |

Agree to disagree I suppose.
I think 1st rounder (likely to be around a ~28th pick or better), Tyler Kennedy and say Bortuzzo is a pretty fair deal. Maybe they add a pick with Iggy. |

Conditional 1st round pick if Iginla re-signs with Pittsburgh. If not, a 3rd. I'd do it. |

He's the most tenured player on the team and a big leader in the locker room. I don't think its realistic that he's going to be moved before the end of his contract. I don't think he's been as bad as he's getting griped about either for that matter. He's only 31, so its not like he's out there with a walker or anything. Getting another shut down guy for the top pair would allow you to keep him playing second pair minutes, which is a role that should suit him nicely. |

I can understand why Bylsma and Shero would be leary of doing this. I'm as big a Despres fan as anyone, but there is a big difference between asking a rookie to play top pair minutes in the playoffs vs playing on the bottom pair. |

it happens every year. - nbartley9
hossas cost could have been higher than a 1st and prospect. it just didnt work out eventually... just like a first and a prospect could bomb for the flames |

That's very true when you look at it that way...Gretz never looked right in a Blues uni.
With all the drama around Foppas various ailments towards the end of his career, its easy to forget how good he was! |

Conditional is a fair thing to ask for, though I'd bet they'd want it to be at least a 2nd.
The other option is swapping out tk for Jeffrey if tk is more valuable to you guys.
