Give them Nisk and Bortuzzo.

I think that's too much ...I don't know how Smid has been playing lately. He'll get a big raise. I'd take Giordano over him any day. |

A pick would have to come back with Smid.
Giordano's cap hit would be a killer for the Pens.

I like Giordano a lot, but his cap is the main reason why I hope we stay away from him. Not that his contract is bad, just that we are already pretty full. |

Iginla was a franchise player....IN CALGARY the other two were journeymen, who'd sign with whatever team had the best chance to win a cup. Interesting though.. - Orpik44
Really, journeymen?
Have a look back through their careers and see how they consistently performed at a high level in the playoffs.....
Journeymen indeed. |

Keep in mind Smid will get $4M/year. He's a free agent. I'd rather pay that much to Giordano. +Orpik's contract will end soon.
Btw, I'd trade Engelland + to Edmonton easily. He's from that town and has made a name for himself in this league. i'd rather keep Borts. |

Giordano makes little sense for the Pens for financial reasons. Have you checked his cap hit? He isn't worth it. |

do you really see Edmonton taking Engelland from Pittsburgh because he is from Edmonton? I don't. He has limited value.

They did just trade a 4th for Mike Brown. So not because he's from EDM but because they think fighting toughness is obviously important. |

As much or more than Borts? Not because he's from Edmonton but it sure would help since nobody wants to play on that team. NO BIG free agents want to sign there.
They took Fistric (another hommie) from Dallas. Engelland is better or just as good as Corey Potter/Jeff Petry for christ sakes |

He doesn't want to be traded with his kids in school there and everything. He has a NMC and IIRC, has said he wouln't waive it. - AncasterPens
Yeah, he's not going to waive it to go to a crappy cap floor team. If I'm him I stay in Philly, or I get bought out, then I can pick and chose the best spot for me. |

Iginla started his career in Dallas and was traded to Calgary. - Ben37
Trying to find inconsistencies Ben? He was only drafted. I don't think he ever played a game for the Stars.
Edit: I think he was involved in the Niewendyk (got it all wrong) deal... |

Good thing that they didn't draft any stud defensemen with those high picks they had

Almost as bad as Jason Bay and Bobby Bonilla being the Mets highest paid outfielders. |

Amazing. Btw, I always loved Darcy Tucker's grit. I always thought Steve Downie would be the next Tucker but he's been pretty quiet now. |

Alexei Yashin last played for the Islanders in 2006-07. He is on their payroll for two more seasons at over $2 million. |

Did you ever read that whole story with Bonilla's deal? I can't remember the details, but read about it a couple years ago and was speechless. |

Did the Penguins ever draft a defenseman with their high picks? They are on a similar trajectory as to the Pens. They are only in year three of the rebuild. Remember it took the Penguins 5 years from when they drafted Fleury to make the playoffs. It's been three since they drafted Hall. |
