Something to look at while bored today
http://www.sportsclubstats.com/NHL/Eastern.html - Deadstar
Good site to keep an eye on as we go.
Philly has a 6.9% chance to make the playoffs. This is great.
This year it is tough to make up any ground. Every game is a conference game.
When is Tampa going to fire Guy Boucher? Gotta be soon, right? Same with Lavy in Philly. |

I could see your beef with Iggy. But will you agree with me that we need some grit\toughness, veteran leadership?
Trying to get a 50\50 with you at least. - Francois Leroux
You won't get 50/50 with me regarding this. If you want toughness - acquire a Clutterbuck type for a second round pick and TK for the third line. You DON'T need to give up a boat load for a 35-year old vet on his way to free agency. You can add two pieces that can help you win a Cup for the price it would cost you to get Iggy for two months. He doesn't solve the true problem.

Honestly, in 3 years no one would care about losing let's say Maata/1st. Just like no one cares that we lost Esposito/1st for Hossa. Giving up Maata/1st doesn't hurt the future as much as everyone says.
Third lines win Cups, so to me a third line this year is more important than a possible top 4 dman in 3 years.
Does everyone think they drafted all of those defensemen to actually play here? They are assets that will be used mostly in trades to complement the core. - bri29smith

Whats the difference between what Kunitz is doing this year and anything Iginla has done? Honest question.
Sid doesn't need help.

48's ship has sailed as a reliable third line player on a Cup contender. Or at least that is what his on ice performance has indicated this year. |

I do agree Kunitz has stepped up this year and been that guy. And can be that guy moving forward, put Iggy on the other side, and you have the best line in hockey.
And, everybody needs help, this is a team game. - bixll
We might already have the best line in all of hockey without Iggy. Why give up a first plus a top D prospect to add to the best line?

Goals this Season
Dupuis = 11
Iginla = 7
You're killing me smalls. Please stop talking nonsense, and start talking about something that makes sense. - Killian
Anyway,,, Iggy was not playing on a line with Sid, Dupes was. I think I could get 10 on Sid line. |

Hes the type that will be a healthy scratch in the playoffs until someone gets hurt, then come in and score in his first game back and you will wonder where this play has been all year long. |

If he gets scratched before Glass, I'll be pissed. I had enough with the Vitale's scratches |

I'm just excited for deadline deals to start... Not even Penguin ones, I just like seeing deals come in. We are less than 3 weeks from the deadline, c'mon GM's entertain me! |

I am not advocating giving up any of the Penguin's prospects for this rental or that rental. But let us not forget, these players are exactly that- prospects. Some of them are going to turn into bonafide NHL players and some, dare I say most, will not. Most fanbases overvalue their prospects and undervalue others' prospects.
If a GM can move a prospect for what he thinks is that missing piece, they will do it.
And if you don't believe me about prospects, go back and read some old The Hockey News Future Watch issues--- a lot of names and prospects that did not make it.

First trade of the day in Sportscenter: Flyers acquire Byfuglien for a 1st and Matt Read....than Iggy for Couturier.. |

That's what we have to keep in mind too. I think we all foresee Morrow, Pouliot, Harrington & Maatta as top 4 NHL defensmen. Odds are that maybe two of them get to that level if we are lucky. You can't think that we can trade away prospect X because we have Y & Z to fill that spot. You gotta be as sure as you can that you pick the right ones to move, and the right ones to hold on to. |

I can't wait for Holmgren's panic moves. I am really surprised that they haven't happened yet (besides Timonen's extension). |

2 more straight losses and something will happen wether it's a trade or a coach change (Lindy Ruff) |

one thing Shero has shown a knack for is unloading a prospect when it becomes apparent that they don't have a future in Pittsburgh. He held onto Tangradi a little longer than the others, but ...

He can't help himself. The Timonen extension for six million was retarded. You forget the Simone Gagne reacquisition in the panic moves?

Maybe he tried to move him but couldn't find a trade partner. At least we got something for him. 7th is better than nothing |

I don't get all the Iggy talk. Shero has a track record of not giving up key prospects for rentals. Yes, Hossa was an exception to this. Some of you guys need to remember that this is Iginla circa 2013 not 2003. I'd trade a first for Iggy, but not a first and a prospect. The larger point is those assets can be better used to acquire a top 4 defenseman. |
