This team is fukked. Volpattis gone, Keslers got a broken Foot. Malholtras out for the year. And we have two goalies which the GM doesnt want to trade.

WTF is going on here. My opinion of the Canucks management is teetering on disasterous.

- vancity787

I don't think that he doesn't want trade one of your goalies, it's that his asking price is ridiculous. Most of the value in moving Lu is removing his contract, but Gillis wants that AND roster player(s) AND high drafts pick(s) AND top prospect(s).

I'm sorry, but that just poor management.

I'm real close...real close. I said last year when I found out the tool would be back I was close and I find myself falling asleep while watching the Canucks every game. Where can I find the Panthers blog? Is there even a Panthers blog? At least I know there won't be many trolls in that blog.

Time for a new coach. Hockey is played with 4 lines. giving kesler 19 minutes with a broken foot. SAme as last year instead of giving minutes to players that aren't injuried.

Just looked over Kassian's numbers

When he gets 20 shifts or more Vancouver is 5-0-1 this year.

I don't know about you but I'd be trying to get him 20 shifts a night.

They are - without a doubt - the worst team to be currently leading their division.

Except for Carolina, of course.

I didn't even realize this is the 1 year anniversary of the Hodgson/Kassian trade.

Remember it like it was yesterday... There's still a hole in the wall beside my gym.

Not trolling, just posting an honest opinion that might be tough for some of you to swallow...

Looking at that list is somewhat surprising. Judging by what Gillis has brought in in terms of forwards, it appears that Gillis is leaving his mark alright... By little more than lifting his leg...

The Kassian/Hodgson trade is by far Gillis' "boldest move." While the jury is still out, early signs are showing that Vancouver lost that exchange. I understand the circumstances behind that trade, but still...

I said it earlier this season, that it was the Sedins who were responsible for Zack's great start and early success. While Kassian was on the #1 line he was playing over is head, while Burrows wasn't nearly as productive away from the Sedins. Now Burrows is back with Henrik and Daniel, his production has increased, while Kassian has all but disappeared to the point of being a health scratch. Coincidence?... I think not!

Looking at the above, I gotta wonder how much Gillis' poor track record was/is playing into the whole Luongo saga. Does Gillis realize that some, perhaps most, of his moves have either been poor or at best lateral? Seriously, who has Gillis recently brought in to improve Vancouver (and please don't say Garrison ) ?

Gillis' latest blunder... Waiving Volpatti, continuing to let the goalie controversy fester and Gillis needs to move Kesler ASAP, while he still can.

Can Vancouver turn it around? Absolutely, but right now, they are looking vulnerable!

- As_I_See_It

Have to agree with all of this, the Volpatti move is far from a blunder though. Lets be real here, a 4th line scrub playing 5 mins a night isn't going to make a difference, anyone who thinks otherwise watched too much of Don Cherry. The loss of skill in Samuelsson, Ehrhoff, Demitra(RIP), Sundin, Hodgson, Salo and hell even Wellwood plus a guy who was a great fit here in Torres is hurting this team right now. This team is trying to play a skilled, puck possession style but I'm not so sure that the level of skill is as high as it was just a couple of years ago. Too many similar types of players and 2nd/3rd line wingers without defined roles.

Ask any Canucks fan, and they'll admit that they'd rather have Ehrhoff right now Garrison, and Willie Mitchell over Keith Ballard. I'm not a Nonis fan at all and always thought Burke was too stubborn to be a good GM, but Gillis hasn't exactly been way better. I'm not a huge AV fan either, but he's not the horrible coach everyone thinks he is, at least not during the regular season and right now it would be hard for a lot of coaches to try and find the right way to handle the goalie situation, the d pairings and forward lines and keep everyone happy. MG has put him in a pretty tough spot.

I agree. It's AV. The young players make a mistake on they sit. Sedins or anyone make a mistake and they just give them more playing time.

I've said all along that he's being way too stubborn about this, sadly I doubt anything gets resolved until this summer unless this team continues to struggle over the next few games and the pressure really heats up. I think most fans would be happy if he can get back a decent asset or two and free up that cap space to acquire a top 6 skilled forward.

When is Booth supposed to be back? (if he's not back already, sorry haven't watched a Canucks game in a few days now). That should help out a bit, but the secondary scoring right now has to be an issue with Canucks.

Lets get real here, giving Kassian 20 shifts isn't going to magically solve this team's problems. It might help, but right now there are too many players who look like they have no chemistry with their linemates because of the constant line juggling and what seems like just the wrong mix of players. It's not just the forwards either, the Edler-Garrison pairing is still a problem as well.

Hey as long as he's scoring it's fine, frees up Burrows to play on another line. It's pretty hard to come up with a lineup that you'd be confident in, chemistry wise right now, especially with Kesler out now. If the team starts winning again with him out then I'll start to buy into the theory that he's the problem.

Was back last game after missing the DET game due to illness. He hasn't been creating much offence so far, but to be fair he hasn't played in awhile and is being 3d line minutes with very limited PP time.

Well if Kassian thinks the way to earn back the minutes he isn't getting is to float around, throw no hits & pick/choose when he wants to look interested, good luck to him. AV is butchering his development, but Kassian isn't handling it any better.
- DrChristianTroy

This happens to guys who get demoted for mistakes. They play tighter don't fore check as hard and try to hard to be in position, it makes it look like they are floating. Most likely Kassian is just trying too hard not to screw up.

The goaltending was pretty great during that stretch too though and bailed the team out and made the that record look better than it is right now. Recently the goaltending has been mediocre so now the team's holes are starting show. I actually would like to see Kassian on that line again though just for the sake of a shakeup:

Sedin-Sedin-Kassian
Raymond-Schroeder-Booth
Higgins-Burrows-Hansen
Pinizotto-Lapierre-Weise

I'm not a huge fan of Burrows as a center, but atleast this lineup has all the top 9 forwards on the top 3 lines. If Burrows struggles then move Lapierre up and Burrows to the wing and Higgins or Hansen down to the 4th with Ebbet and Pinizotto.
