They were so lacking for size and strength on the D-end that they dealt JVR for Luke Schenn...a trade on which many feel the Flyers lost, but to be honest it was a trade they absolutely HAD to make.

Every team would want Buff, would Philly be any farther ahead if they trade roster players cause they will have to give big to get big back. I think the play here is for Philly to trade something like two or three firsts and/or more to get a big star Dman. It makes perfect sense for a team like Philly to trade away firsts because they have a core of a team that can win right now and with a stud D those picks won't be high. Imo where the Leafs traded firsts at the most risky position in the Kessel deal, here Philly is in the ideal situation to spend first round picks...they were essentially willing to do that when they did the big offer sheet in the summer, I won't be surprised
btw imo L. Schenn still has upside for Philly, he's still a young guy, don't count him out
