Opens the door for Getzlaf/Weiss/Clowe etc in the offseason. Coler's heart wasnt in it this year, potentially retiring at the end of the year and Habs get a sniper who has played under Therrien before and is a UFA. If Ryder suceeds he'll earn a new contract if not MB will dangle his line in the Free Agent waters. Habs dire need is up the middle, they'll likely move a center because they need to improve in the faceoff circle, thats where the likes of Weiss or Getz come in. Not to mention the way Timmins is able to turn mid draft picks into gems is a plus as well. Time will tell but great move by MB IMO Go Habs Go!

Perfect fit for the Habs.

Yes, I've been saying the same thing about the L.Schenn trade as well...
- Flyfreaky

The Schenn/JVR trade arguing over who won is the dumbest (frank)ing thing ever.

Leafs fans are loving JVR. Philly fans are loving Schenn. Why does it seem unacceptable that two teams can make a trade and both come away with what they wanted?

I wouldn't be surprised to see the Leafs and Flyers work out more deals in the future that are mutually beneficial.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Weiss in Montreal. Right now he's playing like he wants to be anywhere but Florida, and I could see the Habs going after him as one of those low cost/potential high reward guys.

Giving Homer too much credit or blame is a stretch in an organization where he does what he is told. There in, lies his job security. Mr. Snider rules. I trust the Coach is aware, as well. How long before the old man has another tantrum?

He traded Richards and Carter.. and out of those two players he got:

Jakub Voracek ( 7th in scoring with 24 points), Brayden Schenn ( 17pts), Wayne Simmonds (15 points), Sean Couturier (having a offensively difficult season but very good defensively, 7pts), Niklas Grossmann (2nd in the NHL in blocked shots and 5th in hits for a d-man), Nick Cousins (leads OHL in pts)...

Richards and Carter combined have 24pts.
The package they received in return... 63 points.

What an idiot.

- jak521

Why the !@#$%^&*() can't some people see what PHI got and how those pieces fit is totally different than what LA got and how those pieces fit? Not to mention Carter went to LA via CLB, not directly from PHI. Amazing.

I agree, he's struggled drastically this year and I doubt MB would be willing to give what Tallon would want in return for him this year but could be a potential target in the offseason. Habs are in dire need of strong faceoff guys and grit up the middle and a change of scenery could just be what the doctor orders for him to get back to what he's capable of.

Please say you're joking... Am I the only one who thinks Torts' systems, and his coaching are WAYYYYYY overrated? And that there's the chance he's actually a pretty terrible coach...? Look at NY for the past few seasons, they can't score, they can't skate with run-and-gun teams, and Torts just seems to come off like an bumhole most of the time. Although, LOVED his chirp on Crosby and Malkin last year, called it as it is. Both pussies.

One thing I have learned about the Winnipeg management is they do not give players away that are signed long term who are their best players.

I too think that if the Jets were to deal a player on Defense its going to be BOGO just because his contract is up after this season and he may be asking for a kings ransom.

The Jets have seen that they can win with out him in the lineup. Buff they can't win with when he is out. At least not to the extent that they win when he's healthy.

is Byfuglien looking at a plate of wings in your avatar?

E1 - This is a rumor that comes from a single reliable source not in any way directly connected to the players or teams involved.
E2 - This rumor is simply more than one reliable sources not in any way directly connected to the players or teams involved and not connected to each other. It does not have to equate to two E1's. It could be several E1's.
E3 - This rumor comes from a single source with ties somehow to the players or teams involved.
E4 - This rumor comes from more than one source with ties to the players or teams involved.
E5 - This rumor comes from source telling Eklund the deal is 100% done and just has not been announced yet.

3 sources and only an E3?????

- LetsGoIsles

Only 1source directly tied to it...but now I have a few more, so call it an e4

on the other hand Pleks is better than Weiss so getting Weiss is kinda pointless when you have Galy comin in offensively, i bet they go for Perry in the offseason if they are to go for anyone big

Three 2nd line centers (and a potential 2nd-3rd line center in Eller) and a non 1st line ready Galy wont get us anywhere and its likely Weiss will want a longer deal

i dont see Weiss getting a longterm deal in MTL so i can't see it, he would fit perfectly if it wasnt for Pleks....unless they use Pleks as trade bait to get that 1st line center

True. I don't think Perry comes to Montreal. I don't think he comes to Toronto either. My gut feeling is that he either resigns in Anaheim, or ends up in Vancouver.
