Just because Nolan wasn't a fan of rigid systems doesn't mean people were just running wild all over the place though. Folks still had positions to play and assignments they had to take care of. I thought that team was pretty structured and responsible defensively, almost to the point of boredom sometimes. That focus on D is something that's gone out the window entirely since he's left, even with the adherence to fancy systems under Gordon. Also, Nolan was much better than any coach since at making sure he had the right match-ups. Top lines always saw Hunter-Sillinger-Hilbert (and Witt). They rarely got caught in the horrible mismatches we see nightly these days.

They were both extremely structured and extremely boring. Hated Nolan's style of play.

Bet you that the Bruins fans last night made some noise. I find it funny that Snow will whined about fan sjupport preventing him from getting FA's and making the Islanders a relevant team yet the Islanders sell ticket packages and set up transportation for out of state fans? Talks out of both sides of his mouth

Snow is clueless. Most of the poeple there were cheering for both teams since tghe Islanders are made up of players all from Boston

It got us in but i don't agree about the great hockey comment. It was boring. I honestly hated it whether they won or not. Any coach that gives Andy Hilbert that much TOI I can't relate too.

But he moved up his ranking on Black Ops II by several thousand spots!

Whoa! In that case, it was time well spent.

Nielse has not been having the best year and this is coming from one of his biggest fans. I know I'm a "Bailey apologist" but biased or not I really think he has been pretty good, he's got to start putting up some points but look who he's playing with. Don't start bashing me Jethro
- Cptmjl

I won't. My position on Bailey is well known. I think he was drafted too high for his ability level, rushed and will never amount to more than a third line player at best. I'd trade him if someone would make a decent offer for him or throw bailey in with someone else in a package to get a decent player.

I recall there being an article that came out at the time of Nolan's hiring to NY in the Toronto Sun that quoted several Buffalo players about Nolan's system. I've tried to find it but can't. The title was "Nolan's system is No system". It went on to explain how technically flawed he was as a coach but made up for it with his motivational abilities. Peca was actually quoted in that article stating that they didn't know where they were going but they knew they'd go through a wall for him. It also went on to detail how Nolan's teams were giving up some of the highest shot totals in the league.

In the end, I never thought much about Nolan as a coach but the one thing I could say about him was he always go maximum effort. I do think come playoff time his lack of true system failed him but the Isles had a pretty good team at that time but ultimately failed against the more composed system of Torts in Tampa.

They played the Sabres in '07....and come playoff time, I think the Isles failed because their goalie played hurt and they were a completely outgunned 8th seed playing the President's Trophy winning squad. I don't know if any system could have overcome that. Yashin never really stepped up, Satan played with a broken ankle, Hill got that weird steroid suspension right before game 1...DP missed the first game and was never really as sharp afterward as he was in the middle of that season...it sort of fell apart a bit after a nice season for a team not expected to go anywhere. That said, a couple of coin-flip video reviews in two separate games going the other way and that would have been a very tough six or seven game series. And I think the Isles did a better job against the Sabres than the Rangers in round 2...not overall...but in stepping up at the right times in the neutral zone to break up the speedy Sabres' rush...where they would come over the blue line in that triangle formation with speed and let the trailer rip a shot from the high slot. Again...not a full system...I know Nolan was never big on that...but responsible hockey.

I know they said that last night. Unbeleivable I tell you. I dont get why we suck at home
- kasperrko

I hate the NVMC. it's no " home ice advantage". It's a half empty dump with more opponents fans inside than Isles fans (a slight exaggeration). I hope when they move to BKlyn the opponents fans don't go too. It's embarrassing to see all the opponents fans sitting around the glass at an isles "home game".

agreed. The problem isn't the building it is the fact that very few people want to pay to see this pile of shat Snow is trying to call an NHL team. If this team was winning consistently it would'nt be anywhere near as bad. A good example is me. I got offered free tickets lower tier center ice last night. I did'nt go. I knew what the game would be like, they actually at least competed a little bit admittadely but that was far from the norm.

Great game last night by the Islanders knew they would lose. Bruins are just light years ahead of the Islanders. It was good to see JAck call a time out after the two quick goals to settle teh team down. Oh wait that did not happen but he calls a time out the other night when they are up by two. JAck is clueless and has no idea how to coach these guys. I saw way to much of Okposo and REasoner last night. Amac has to be one of the worse defenseman I have seen in a while. He should not be on a power play at all cant hit the net to save his life. The second power play unit is a total waste and I would reward Cizikas a spot on the pwer play over those guys. Okposo was the same had a little jump but I am realizing he really is not a NHL player. Anyway another great loss for the rebuilding Islanders. Toronto is next and since we ill be playing home I see another loss in our future.

Good news is the Rangers loss to keep us two points behind. You know a couple of wins and we would be in teh playoffs.

Yeah I really think Ciszikas can be something big if used correctly. One thing Jack has no clue about is using his guys strengths in the line up. I really dont think he knows his players that well. Or he is just that stupid

the most claring difference last night is size of BOSTON DEFENSE. they boxed up the middle and very chance when you saw Islanders all alone with direct shot at net.

Nabby may of let in softie on first goal but he made some monster saves throughout the game. He does what goalie suppose to do and keep you in the game. Team Scoring has to do it.

Boston has scouting isles well, they shut down JT and Moulson and knew we had very lil secondary scoring.

Bailey i thought played his strongest game. only thing is does he bring same game thursday?

So i repeat again, Boston is one fo best teams in NHL, i think If isles bring that effort to every game, We would have steamrolled OTT twice, Buffalo, Winnipeg, and rangers at MSG.

I know we only 2 point off playoff spot but its these game that we should be making ground and getting into middle of eastern standings not the 8 spot.

I don't either. He is one of those people that just does'nt do his job, it's obvious. Any chimp could put better line combinations together. Even the ridiculously stupid homers on here can't make excuses for his lack of expertise.

Still baffled on the negative Nielsen comments. yes by NHL standards he not a 2nd line centre, but for isles he no question is there 2nd best center.

His stats are quite respectable vs others 2nd liners in league, he is one of better PKers in the league and he is the #1 shootout player in NHL. What more do you want till Strome or Nelson are ready for prime time?

For change i agree with you Kasper , Cizikas is great talent and can be utilzed more, And totally agree that Reasoner and KO are getting way too much ice time. if you down 2 goals, WHY would you ever put REASONER in their to try to tie it.
