It's a cookie cutter answer that I've heard from GM's in EVERY sport. "if there's an opportunity to upgrade our roster and make the team better, we'll do it, but not at the expense of our young guys or prospects,"
What does that statement say? NOTHING. It's practically cliche for a GM. If you came into an intermission interview from Snow expecting that he was going to make big comments regarding the need for additions to the team I'm not sure what to tell you. 99% of the GM's say exactly what he said. - keaner17
GM's say all the time they're looking for defense, or looking for scoring, etc. It took Howie asking the same question like six different ways and Snow still couldn't say he'd like a power forward. If you're someone who already had it in for Snow, the interviews he gives do nothing to dispel the notion that he's just on autopilot and doesn't really have a good grasp of what he's doing. His answers are bad, and his delivery is worse.
I don't read a lot into the interviews at all. If you've seen one, you've seen them all. So on that, we agree. They serve little to no purpose...but that's where I think Snow screws up the opportunity he has with the interviews, and I disagree that every GM is like that. I think quite a few will let it be known that they're in the market for something, even if it's just to get the current players to play a little harder and maybe look over their shoulder a bit rather than get too comfortable.
GMs generally use interviews to push a message, not always an honest one, but a message nonetheless, either to the players, the fans, other GMs, etc. What message was Snow pushing in that interview? The only one I got, which is the same song now for half a decade, was:
This message doesn't speak to the jaded fan base anymore, and certainly doesn't light a fire under the players, so it really serves absolutely no purpose whatsoever.

Amen UIF. The same message is not working. The players listening to that was like a warm blanket instead of a kick in the A$$ |

writing something like this at 10 minute of 5pm isn't cool. I can't respond to it as I'm about to leave....
Major point is that just because Garth didn't say in an INTERVIEW that he's looking or wants a powerforward doesn't mean he's not interested in finding one.
As for the message, I think it's obvious...his message was what it has been, popular or not..Patience. It was a vanilla interview with predictable answers. we'll agree to disagree on what the census poll of GM's say but I've heard that same stuff said by DOZENS of them |

Doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. It's the same situation..yet another interview...yet you're expecting a different result.
I'm intrigued as to just how you would want him to reply to those questions knowing the teams present predicament. I know I'm in total agreement with everyone that what we have is NOT enough and we need more fast, but I don't think he said anything different than what 99% of the other GM's in the league would have said had they been facing the same scenario. - keaner17

im just looking down the system and see there are a lot more forwards in the system who are going to step up soon...the way i see it, grabner on the 2nd/3rd line isnt as important as a top 4 dman.
i thnk grabner is VERY valuable which is why id expect a TOP dman in return. - LetsGoIsles

When the Isles start making the playoffs again Snow can give interviews like the other night. Until then he has to at least sound up to the part. |

I don't think our window has hardly began to open yet. I think this team has been built and projected to begin competing in 2015. Sucks for all of us, but that's the only time I anticpate seeing efforts to vastly improve the big club rather than the farm system. - keaner17
So it was built specifically to start competing in 2015? |

I don't know if i agree with that? At the very least not make believe the team is great and most of all bring up one of it's blaringly weakest attributes(toughness)an say it's one of it's biggest strengths. Saying they have ares they need to address would be a common theme with a GM being interviewd with a team like this. You don't think so? Christ, how many times did you hear even Milbury say this? Lamerello? Seriously? You're sticking up for his interview skills or lack there of? You're getting hung up on the interview. I never said I expected anything less. The guy is a moron, you think otherwise. Great. I go on results, he has none as far as his drafting, rebuilding, standings, you name it he has none. You have not one positive thing to go on. Keep talkingabout his interview with me? He could be the worst inerviewer in the world if he did half the job he was supposed to I'd be singing his praises like you sheeples. |

I liked Cappy's postgame interview though. Like he said the coaches have given them what they need. We do need a more outspoken captain, I know we all want the C on JT but right now they need a guy like Kanopka blasting the team. Cappy is basically saying someone in there get everyone on the same page, he knows he can't get them there...this is when you need a real leader...still wish we were in contention for a real run cause I'd love to have Iginla here (I know a dream). Just there comes a time that the guys need to step up here...not just MM JT or Nabby. That said he does need to sit KO a few games and send him a message....cause the GM isn't changing a thing ''unless it is something that makes the team better'' lol. In other words unless a team will take KO and give him the world there will be no changes....Cappy needs to at least bring Ulltstrom back in and sit KO.... - Nolanders

I wonder what JT would say to having to wait another two years? The Isles need to start showing signs now and they better be very active this offseason. - ses111
Two years????? He'll be lucky if it's 7 with this management. Did you have a long hard look at this team. We don't have a true number one. We had a waiver wire pick up playing 20 minutes on the back end. We have a #3/4 Dman and a 7/8 playing on the first pairing with no true 1/2. We have one legit scoring line. A maybe checking line and n othing in between and a GM that nobody wants to play for. Two years? I'll be jumping for joy if we made it to the playoffs in 2 years let alone compete in them. |

Ding Ding Ding!!!! Thank you verrrry much. I'm so sick of the Snow can do no wrong BS that goes on here, (frank)ing sheeples. With that said i could care less about his interview, it's his GM'ing skills i have a problem with. |

First off it's "poster", singular. Second of all you come in here insult half the thread, gush with your love for everything Snow and dissappear. Never offer anything to the "conversation" as you put it. If you want to talk about intelligence i think your opinion and your expectations of this team speak volumes as far as that's concerned. |

What would you like to discuss?
My opinion of the team is Wang is an ass... and nothing changes until he leaves!!!
Pretty simple!!!
Without a decent owner that will spend money... this team is handcuffed. |

We can all agree on Wang being an a$$, the rest not so much. except him leaving and taking his little back up goalie with him. This team will be the better for it. |

This is the point though. An interview like THAT isn't going to be dictated by the teams present standing. It's all cliche blah blah blah. |

I know the interview with snow was rather meaningless... but I couldnt stand listening to it. Like most have said, he was asked a single question about 4 or 5 times, and he still doesnt answer it. Howie brings up a 1st line POWER FORWARD who can score and bring grit, an obvious and glaring need for this team, and brings up carkner and finley (who was scratched btw). I honestly feel like Garth thinks Carkner is a forward. Then he brings up Boyes and how "well" he is playing. All the fans know we need a star winger, and he constantly dodges the question. Unless he honestly feels Boyes is the answer...which im lead to believe he does. The man is clueless. |

Boyes is presently the answer...like it or not. That's also the reason you're not going to have Garth saying "we need a 1st line power forward" because then he's essentially saying to Boyes that he's not good enough for the job. He may know that and want to make a trade, but don't expect him to say that publically. Boyes is a 1 year plug, an attempt to find another Moulson. Weight suggested bringing him in so they did it.
If Garth truly thinks we don't need an upgrade on that line then he's wrong, but I think it's way too internet messageboard of everyone to assume he's some chump who can't see the truth. The problem everyone has is that he won't ADMIT it. And THAT is my point. No GM is going to admit that given the present state of the franchise. |

well that was my point in dodging the questions. Its either he wont admit it, or he doesnt realize. |
