I think Garth says whatever he thinks his boss wants to hear. That is the real problem. I don't know if you'd see him be a good GM without Wang there, but it's impossible to tell, IMO. All I can say is this- when you have thoughts like, "he's good at getting to the cap floor," you have to realize that there's a REASON he works so hard at that aspect of the job....he's not the guy with the money......or without the money...... - dcb1

if you are going to bash garth, it would be smart to use a player that wasnt just demoted to the ahl as your point of reference. - LetsGoIsles

If you watch the game after the Islanders hardly got any shots on goal and they stopped playing. Hurricanes were just as bad. If you kept the timeout then when they tied it up you could have settled down the team. Even though Jack would have not done that anyway - kasperrko
I just don't think it had anything to do with anything. At one point when the isles were up 2-0 the shots were 15-6 Carolina, isles had 10 of 11 in second period before the phantom call on Martin and the bull poop soft ass crap that Poulin gave up. Again I'm not claiming the isles don't have deeper issues but once again, our goalie got outplayed hands down. |

The point is you don't waste time outs especially for this team that can't hold a lead. As we found out later in the third when it could've been used when Tavares could'nt catch his breath with 2 minutes left. Did it decide the game, almost definitely not but it was a bush league stupid thing to do none the less, thats the point. Also if you think we lost that game bcs of Poulin idk what to say. He let in a softy and was far from spectacular but this team served it up to the Canes with 5 minutes left in the second and kept giving it to them in the third, it was disgraceful |

Dude Garth really thinks his teamis the best out there and thinks they are fine. He is arrogant and stubborn. He was like that when he played as well. He is like best friend with DP which I am sure is the reason why it took so long to make that dscion and he has no clue what a power forward is at all. Howin made him look real stupid and it is about time - kasperrko
I serously doubt it. Honestly, put yourself in his shoes. He's got an owner who's interested in doing nothing but run the clock out until 2015. The purse strings are so tight that we're taking on ghostmen (ie. Thomas) just to stay safe with the cap floor. Do you not think if Wang said, "you can spend $65 million" that Garth wouldn't spend $65 million?".
I suppose everyone is going to take from these interviews whatever validates their predisposed opinion, but the looks on his face to each question struck me as a "What do you want me to tell ya?" look.
Garth's played on teams that have made the Stanley Cup finals. I promise you he's no idiot and clearly knows this team won't be hoisting the cup. He knows this team in it's present incarnation is crap but he's in no position to call a spade a spade for the limited amount of fanbase that wants to hear it. We, as frustrated fans, all long for him to speak the truth, but you have to consider what the ramifications of doing that would be from his perspective.
So he'll continue to say, "I know these kids can do it..I believe in them" etc etc and we'll all continue to stare at the calendar.

I wrote my comment in response to yours, but mine was really directed at anyone who continuously uses that "playmaker" nonsense as a crutch for Bailey's poor play. It wasn't necessarily directed solely at you. - Jethro09
I figured as much...but let it be known that I'm not in that camp. I have no issue giving him one shot if this season becomes a "lost" season on the top line with JT and Moulson to see if he's got what it takes. If he does not produce, he needs to go. Tired of the these 5 year experiments that are still only here because they were high draft picks. If you suck you suck, no matter when you were drafted. |

I do work in a professional setting even though I am not made out for it but that being said maybe I am just want the truth once in a while. Truth is he could have said he is not playing to well for the last few years we felt this was the best move we could make going forward. That would have been easy |

If Cappy is the biggest problem than Garth can do something about that. He needs to bring in a better coach. He should be all over Ruff. I have a hard time believing Wang cannot afford his salary. Garth should also be able to make trades without risking the rebuild. Move KO and Bailey. They do not seem to be part of the solution. Snow and company just cannot put there hands and do nothing. The time for patience is over. - ses111
I generally agree. That said, Garth is not going to come out and say "We desperately need to make a trade". While that may be satisfying to us as diehard fans, it does nothing for the team in finding value for anyone they really do wish to deal.
You're all smart enough to know those types of interviews are fluff interviews. They're never going to provide you with anything more newsworthy than the teams own rah-rah website. So to come out of those interviews disappointed is silly.
We need a coach..FAST. This is the one place that Garth is REALLY frustrating me because it effects the players already playing here. |

and their "development" during this "rebuild". One of the many reasons why I call BS to this "rebuild". Snow is a moron for picking and leaving Capuano there, how can anyone think this guy is good for developing prospects. Or is that Wangs fault too? |

Keaner I do not expect him to trash DP or say he's going to make a bunch of trades but he should at least say it's unacceptible the way the team is playing. He needs to give the fanbase some red meat. He cannot say things like the team has proven they can win. That's a crazy thing to say. This team has won nothing for years.
Garth should not even give these interviews if he has nothing of value to add. |
