Never said they were in the Smythe division but you're naming divisions after key figures in certain organizations without having those organizations in that division. Just seems odd. And you're also naming divisions after players instead of naming awards after them. Usually, players get awards while owners and builders get divisions.

I named a conference and two divisions after key figures in the modern history of the GAME. The organizations for which they played had nothing to do with it. It was based on their impact to the game. Show me the rules that define how conferences and divisions are named.
As far as perfection, there will never be a perfect alignment scenario. Dallas is in a division that makes sense based on its geographic location in the southeastern quadrant of the United States.
Agreed that NJ may seem to be in an odd division. But is there really a need for 3 metro-NY teams in the same division? One team had to move to a different division. I chose the Devils because they draw fewer fans than most of the rest of the teams I placed in the Patrick Division.
The major problem with any realignment is that Bettman has pushed to place teams in non-traditional markets and tried to force the product on the respective fan bases. This has effectively created a geographical conundrum when it comes to placing certain teams in a conference/division. I tried to layout a three conference system that respected time zones and geographic proximity. If it meant breaking up certain rivalries, then so be it.
