No confirmations yet but hearing Ron Rolston (coaching Rochester in AHL) as possible and perhaps likely replacement in BUF

I wish Lindy had just stepped down on his own.

Roy isn't coming here; Sabres mgmt wants nothing to do with him or his antics.

I'm actually extremely sad that Ruff got fired. He's the only coach I've ever known, I mean I think he was hired when I was 10 months old...I really miss the great times this team and city had with those teams right after the lockout...those were the good old days...honestly, those days were awesome...those are the only teams I know and I'm gonna miss seeing Lindy behind the bench...when you say Buffalo you think Lindy Ruff...that said, I hope he catches somewhere and is succesfull...I just really wish he could've won the cup here...that's how it was supposed to happen and he was supposed to go out on his own terms...but it was time...

He would make sense as an interim coach. They probably do serious interviews after the season.

Typical Darcy will just hire Rolston and little will change.
- Losman

Rolston doesn't make sense because then you have both teams making changes. My guess is Patrick for the rest of this year and new search after the season is over. To bring in an outsider at this point in a shorten season simply does not make sense. No time to put in a new system. i also would not expect much from this group this year... get a high draft choice and bring in someone for next year.

It's about time. He stayed way too long as coach. They need a new start.

End of an impressive era? Yeah right. The only thing impressive about Ruff's reign as coach is how much frustration, disappointment, and humiliation the Buffalo Sabres' fan base was able to endure while this inept man was held absolutely unaccountable by the front office year after year.

Coaching change in Philly got the Flyers into the playoffs and then into the Cup Final.

Coaching change in LA got the Kings into the playoffs and then won the Cup.

Are there any coaches that could do that with Buffalo?

Better pieces for them to start anew with.

How butthurt would Toronto be if this happened and we won a cup?

Garth the fact Ralston knows the system is why he should not be hired. The system doesn't work. And quit crying about "Ruff ain't going anywhere"

I liked ruff and sad he couldn't win here. The time is right for a new coach from the outside.

Now they just need to hire someone without the word "Buffalo" anywhere on his resume.
