Im two hours from Calgary and i don't like it at all.. But thats just my opinion. Im not a city guy but i do travel to them often and have lived in a lot of Canadian cities for short periods. I guess i just have a different perspective on what our Canadian culture is. I've been to every Province, Territory, and city west of Quebec city. Ive been chewed alive by black flies (nearly every may) more times than i can count. I've paddled countless canoe routes in Ontario and fished hundreds of backland lakes. I howl at the wolves (and believe me it will send a shiver up your spine when your all alone in the boreal forest. I grew up playing hockey on the frozen ponds, lakes, rivers, driveways in -45 temp. I've hiked all of Banff and Jasper and i know every Gordon Lightfoot, Stompin' Tom, Tragiacally Hip, Neil Young song there is to know. IM SORRY IF I DON'T GIVE A (frank) ABOUT WHAT TORONTO SUPPOSEDLY HAS TO OFFER. - Arctic_AARDVARK
There is no need to be angry. I said in my post that you may think differently. You're welcome to your opinion. But as far as I've seen, and most people seem to agree, that Ottawa certainly isn't a great place to live, all things considered. it's my opinion, that most prefer Toronto, Montreal, Halifax, Calgary, for various reasons. Just my experience. If you really like it because it's slow and there isn't much going on, and you can afford it, that's great for you. I'm a little surprised at someone knocking Calgary though. I honestly can't think of much to criticize about that city.
It seems to me that you don't prefer any cities, or even the proximity of any cities. I think you could pretty much find any bush or road with nothing there and be happy. So, maybe you're not the one to be commenting on which city you prefer. Sort of a like a beer drinker trying to comment on fine wines. |

I'm very at home in Toronto as well. I find it comical when people refer to crime and shootings. Maybe if you're walking around Moss Park or Regent Park at 3am. Otherwise, I feel totally safe.
I went on a trip out to Kananaskis when I was in Calgary. Absolutely incredible. It truly is beautiful. - Dirte
I've explored the hell out of that place. It's nice but the mountains eventually lose their aura. Theres no hardwoods and few lakes. Its pretty but every part of this country has it's own beauty. Even the flatness of southern Saskatchewan is beautiful. It's all about perspective. |

I played hockey and had a cottage in Port Carling. We've had cottages in Walkers point, lake rosseau, and beaumaris. Money was never an issue. Muskoka is insanely busy in the summer. - Arctic_AARDVARK
Yes, I've spent quite a bit of time in those places as well. We certainly have a different definition of busy. In comparison to other cottage regions, it's quite quiet. |

Get over it already.
Toronto has all that within distance too. I live in Milton and still prefer that to Ottawa.
There is no good reason to hate anywhere just because your preferences differ. That said, living in a place with more choices and options is hardly going to be inferior to a place with far less to offer.
Dont feel very Canadian being where? Toronto? Really? Let me guess, the diverse cultural surroundings too difficult to stomach? Awesome. Good to meet you Don Cherry on haterade. - systemtool
Guelph here. I wouldn't move out of the area I am in for any other place in Canada. |

You seem to have anger issues dude, I have noticed you get angry very quickly here. We are all different have different views on places, I'm also very weary when people say they have been all over this country.
But I will leave you with this, I have not been all over this country, I have been to Newfoundland and Labrador, been to Halifax, been to several places in Quebec (I actually own property there), been just about every where you can possibly go in Ontario, travelled a whole summer from one end of the province to the other with friends, people don't realize the beauty of Ontario. Been to Vancouver and to Banff. Every where I went I met extremely kind people and in every place met rude people, they live in every city and town in this country, it is not exclusive to one place. |

What do you mean about not having hardwoods? As in, deciduous/coniferous? Do you prefer places depending on the type of trees they have? |

Yeah AB is beautiful, aka Jasper, banff, the Rockies, Calgary, not Edmonton though or the endless winter and raised pick up trucks with hanging steel balls that everyone drive.
I have family and friends in AB, I'd move there but I will stand out like costumeless guy at Comicon. I love the diversity in TO and I only feel Canadian in this City. - hooligoon
I feel Canadian whether Im here, Mexico, Europe or South America. Strange idea.
Why would you stand out in Alberta? Our lack of diversity is a laughable myth. |

I would go along with the friendly assessment... my problem was that, since I was there in the winter, the only people I really socialized with were clients, so keeping it professional was pretty much a must

As i said, i don't like living in cities. I live in Ottawa for 4 years and never once met a person who prefered Toronto. I was more talking about the Ottawa Valley... Renfrew, Eaganville, Pembroke, Petawawa, Deep River. Im not angry at all, of course everyone has their opinions about Canada and where they like to be. I grew up in Muskoka and Callander (mom and dad split) and I don't like either that much but i had some great memories in Callander. Lake Nipissing is an awesome lake. |

No he probably just doesnt like cities. I grew up on a farm 30 minutes away from the nearest town of 5000 people, and in a city of 90000 people I still cant get used to the noise. |

This.
So its rather douchebaggy to say being in Toronto makes one feel less Canadian, or worse, actually makes people less Canadian. |
