I could see the Rangers looking at guys like Ron Hainsey, Jordan Leopold, and Adrian Aucoin at the deadline. Those guys are in the last year of their respective deals and can chip in some offensively.

Another name is Grant Clitsome. He's posted some decent offensive numbers in the past, is in the last year of his deal and only makes $1.25MM. I saw him when he was with Columbus and there are worse options you could get.

Just some thoughts from an outsider.

yeah, real outsider.

Glad others commented before I could of the list, I like Clitsome and name would be great in NY, but play has regressed since 2010-11 . Audio in is older than dirt, so is Leopoldo and Hainsey is better in the CBA negotiations than on ice but maybe each would play more than Torts plays Gilroy

I'll say this about Hainsey though; he is tied for third in the NHL in block shots among defensemen and maybe he needs to be on a playoff contender to get his game back up to a higher level. He's been a part of exactly zero playoff teams in his career (including three seasons in Columbus). He was pretty good in Columbus reaching the 30-point plateau twice in three seasons.

He's also been a plus player in each of the last two seasons while playing for bad teams. If the price was right I'd take a look at him if I was the Rangers.

Not disagreeing, just wonder if they look for a 5/6 rather than a true six given how Torts tires of the back duo.

Hi Jan - Aren't you worried that our top 5 defensemen will be gassed by season's end if Torts continues with this insanity? Needs to play 6 during the year to get through playoffs

Maybe Tort's isn't worried since the season's shorter? This season plus playoffs is shorter than a regular 82 game season before even including playoffs

It's definitely a concern but the good news is that with the shortened seasoning the fa that all the top 4 demen are young I think they can handle the work load.

But another dependable defenseman would be great

I think everyone needs to realize that every team is in the same boat and a lot of teams don't have as good a top 5 as we do, before the season I thought we were a good 4 but Stralman has turned himself into a solid two way defensmen plus Gilroy could play more minutes, he's more reliable than the first go around

Noticed that JD got dumped by the Blues and now he works for the Jackets.

Anybody know what happened there?

New Blues owners didn't renew his contract, he's responsible for their resurgence, thy obviously know nothing about hockey, he's gonna do good things for Columbus

He rsigned from the blues a while ago. Got a better job with Jackets. He president of hockey operations for them. He just hired Kokelinan as his new GM.

It was a mutual decision. New Blues ownership wanted to trim some money and Blues front office was top heavy with JD, Doug Armstrong as GM and Dave Taylor as high-level executive. They figured they were alright on the hockey ops side and JD decided to pursue other challenges.

Asham's wearing the Ranger jersey so he gets my approval. I think it was only Alex, maybe one other dude here who literally said he hates Asham, basically cause he wore other jerseys of Rangers rivals.

IMO, you have to root for the guys that are laying it on the on-line for your team. Prust was a very good Ranger, but at the end of the day, he made the decision to leave. I am not saying I wouldn't have made the same decision, but I am rooting for the guy wearing blue.

Maybe Boyle and Prust will fight ... after their done making out, of course.
