No doubt. Just wish he was faster and more physical (especially with his size). He's still young though. I still prefer schenn over coots if lavy were to remain the coach for the foreseeable future... But its splitting hairs since they both will be very good in their primes.

I think that stuff will come. I'm not crazy about dealing either one, to be honest. Rather see if a combination of some of the wingers could get a deal done for a defenseman

I guess the Boychuk experiment was a flop with the Pens. In 7 games playing with Crosby he failed to record a point.

It's actually MacKinnon, you may also look at his teammate who is well equally as good in Jonathan Drouin

This was from Friday night

Briere IMO = compliance buyout. I still think if anyone can pull it off the flyers find a way to get pronger 'healthy' enough to be the other compliance buy out. Call it a gut feeling.

Equally as bad. Guess Rutherford knew what he was doing.

i'll take my chances w/ hamilton...laughton would have made couts absence more tolerable.
- isaiah520

You're taking your chances on Hamilton for one reason. Simply because of what position he plays. Laughton isn't likely to be anywhere near the player that Couturier is.

I had zero issue with the Flyers passing on him. He put up good numbers in juniors and is a decent AHLer...but he's just not shown he can be a solid NHLer.

Nobody knew Couturier was going to slide which is why the Flyers jumped at taking him. Who knows maybe had he been gone Hamilton would be here but nobody can look at it that way.

It's over it's happened it's long been time to move on.

I thought he would be an interesting player to take a chance on, it appears he's not an NHL player.

No, its a one year deal. If Timonen retires, it comes off the cap & he also doesn't get paid.

Unfortunately, with the way the FA market is, Timonen at 1 year $6mm will probably be a good move. I could see somebody giving 3 years to Streit at $6mm or 5 years to Hainsey at $5.5mm or something like that....it'd be horrible if the Flyers did that.

- Jsaquella

A huge problem is that it looks like he is cooked. He just looks really bad out there. No good options I guess.

If the Pens dump him, Rutherford said he'd put a claim in. I still don't see it. Too small to be an effective third liner/checking role guy, not skilled enough to be a top line scorer. He gets pushed off the puck too easily and outmatched in corners.

I don't think he looks cooked.

He came back after the lockout, not having played anywhere for 6 months, and admitted he wasn't in game shape. The first 5 or 6 games he showed signs of that rust. Since then he's played very solidly, up until last night, when he was hobbled by an injury.

Speaking of 2013 draft eligible Alexander Barkov, this is his shootout goal from last night.

I wonder when Mez returns if there's a possibility he's paired with Kimmo after a few games ...

Didn't he and Kimmo play well together last season ?

Grossman - Coburn
Kimmo - Mez
Gus - Schenn

Everyone should relax and not hit the panic button just yet. Once Hartnell and Mez return, things will look very different IMO, well...I hope. I don't think a coaching change, a big trade involving Couts or Read or talking about buyouts is realistic until the team plays 5-6 games with everyone valuable in the lineup.
- Chris48

i'm all about patience and sticking with the youth, but any talk of a buyout w/ briere considering the current mix and the reduced cap is hardly premature.

If we slide in a playoff spot and he goes on fire like he always does.... maybe you change your mind. The 6.5 hit is ridiculous but I think buyouts issues/options are far behind the current problems the flyers have in Homer's mind.

Let me position myself in the ol' bomb shelter real quick; I'd have made that trade last summer *slams concrete manhole cover shut.
