False, the home opener after the 04' lockout was at 50% capacity. So we're te next 3 home games. I had free tickes to each.

HA, true story. I used to get free tickets for me and the wife, we would take our 3yr old daughter and each sit and opposite sides of a section of seats so she could run back and forth. The place was a ghost town.

That's leaves only one other reason. We're idiots. It's not like we're great hockey fans. The USA games for the world junior had maybe 4,500 us fans. For an event that was fairly priced, advertised like (frank) on radio, tv, Internet, billboard and in the newspaper. Where we're the fans?

The ironic part about the World Juniors was that in the days leading up to it, many of the locals, led by the media, went on a spree beating our chests about what a great hockey market we are. And we showed it...by letting the folks from the Golden Horseshoe pump money into our economy.

I wonder if that was Lindy's plan for benching him...waiting until someone else had a worse plus/minus.

I see 2 big reasons that contribute to the quiet in our arena.

1. The building itself. It's designed to be a multi-use facility. Like several other buildings, the sound won't echo as much as the older styled barns. The Aud was very loud. You could feel the building shake when things got really crazy. I've only had a few moments like that at Crossroads/HSBC/FNC and that includes the '99 cup run and all of those crazy come back games in the mid-2000's.

2. The team. The team has the fans trained to not expect much. It hasn't always been this way. The Drury and Briere teams won a lot of games late because they never gave up. This current team has also had some comebacks, but they are different. Now they float for 52 minutes and then turn it on in the last 8.

This team hasn't protected leads well over the past few years. They get into that slow it all down mode and everyone keeps backing up. Instead of trying to win, they try not to lose. And that's what losers do.

Miller getting hit by Lucic didn't create an issue, it simply magnified it. The core of this team over the past few seasons is like kleenex; soft and disposable. Guys got wrecked into the boards or took a cheap shot and no one reacted, or the wrong guys react.

This team over the last 4-5 seasons has trained the fans that they can't hold a lead, they won't stick up for each other, they don't play physical, and if they have an extra gear, they won't use it until the dying seconds. We're conditioned to have low expectations.

Multi use buildings suck. They mute the sounds and suck the life out of te building.

Also, this team is BORING to watch most of the time, and occasionally provides some slapstick comedy. Watching on tv is painful, especially when I can remember five or six years ago when we actually had dynamic players with high skill levels.

Before I had NHL center ice, Sabres games were on tv practically every week on TSN and SPORTSNET in Ontario because they were exciting to watch and thrilling.

Pierre McGuire used to practically live in Buffalo they were on tv so much.

Nowadays, it's like watching paint dry.

Power plays that go nowhere and give the other team more shots on net than we get.

NHL calibre defencemen that miss the net high AND wide with every shot, and the puck careens around the boards leading us to ice the puck for the other team.

Mature men that have professional NHL contracts that CANNOT drive to the net but go weakly to the outside and flip the puck at the net. Like, how many people actually get hurt going to the net? Zero?

"Star" players who refuse to body check, take the body, stand up for their buddies, or skate away at the earliest signs of physicality


Rushes that go offside (stupidly) 95% of the time. "Cleared but not out" penalty kills.


Boring strategies like dump and chase.

I could go on. But these are the most glaring examples of why Sabres hockey sucks.
