The problem with trading Despres now, is that his current trade value is not where near his potential value to a team.

Whitney and Goligoski got great return, but they were both proven NHL players at that point. Shero's brilliance was that they were pretty much at their ceilings at the time of the trades. Most people agree that Despres is on the right path to being a top-4 dman, but no team is going to give much more than a Devon Setoguchi for him right now.

Would you be happy if your team traded a bonafide top 6 winger who scores 25 goals, for a prospect who probably will be very good? Unless it's a deal for a rental, or part of an all out fire sale, I doubt it.

Yeah if Despress can't crack the Pens D lineup regulary, he's not worth much.

I think there is a major reason why Despres isn't in the lineup now and Lovejoy is and it has nothing to do with his ability. Me thinks its showcasing Lovejoy. If they were looking to deal Despres, they wouldn't scratch him twice in a row in favor of the Dartmouth grad.

Madden says relax then in his next breath says the Pens need to make a trade before the deadline and that there's no time to wait.

No way do I want the Pens to trade Despres for Setoguchi. I would have no problem with the Pens trading him but it has to be a player better than Setoguchi.

No such thing as showcasing, not in this day in age.

What's Lovejoy going to show that scouts haven't seen before from him? It's not like he is going to all of the sudden be a top player other teams are targeting.

I don't think that they are showcasing anyone. Even if Lovejoy goes out and plays two great games, his return isn't going to change at all.

I can see Lovejoy going for a F prospect like PVR, someone like that. Despress and a pick for a bigger fish...Iginla

You have alot of teams searching for blueliners right now. Philly, Islanders, Detroit, LA, Calgary, maybe Florida ... You need to play him a few games and hope he plays solid in order to fetch a decent return. Sure, he won't bring a first or second or third round return. However, a fourth isn't out of the question based on recent activities. JMO

Lovejoy is playing while Despres sits due to the fact that, at this moment, the 28yr old, experience Lovejoy is a better Dman than the 21yr old, inexperienced Despres.

Despres will get there, but he's not going to do it over night.

Why trade a young prospect for a guy who will be available in the summer? If they trade Despres, i would want a younger top 6 guy with potential.

I've been watching the Isles this year, tomorrow is going to be a tough game. If the team keeps playing lazy Tavares and co. will rip us a new one.

I know, I was just always a big Iginla fan. He's got about 4 yrs left, wouldn't mind seeing them in Pitt.

You aren't the only fan of Iggy's. He would certainly be a big addition not only as a player, but as a leader. Despite his age, he still produces and its not like he is flanked by great talent. Regardless, if Calgary deals him, it will be for a Despres type and a first and third type of return, or a Morrow, a first and third. You are going to be giving up a significant young D prospect.

Not sure what Oates is thinking. Boudreau and Hunter got their walking paper from the Caps because OV wasn't happy. Why would Oates think he'd be any different?

Weird. I wonder how they got a team in the Ontario Hockey League.

Oates has a three year contract, maybe he's trying to get a couple years of paid vacation lol. I'm guessing it will be a matter of time before Leonsis undercuts him publicly.

Based on what I've seen from Ovi that's a good line for him. Why waste the talents of Backstrom when Ovi just wants to skate through the opposing team by himself?

Hey - Does anyone have access to TIOPS and, if so, can you tell me who the non-rental W's are that the Pens are supposedly targeting? Not sure why, but I really want to know.

I'm guessing Setoguchi is one of them.

I subscribe to Tiops.....

Seto and Glencross are the two.....with Glencross the more preferable. Says Bylsma is a big fan of Seto. Also said Minny would need to add more to the deal. Finally said no serious talks are taking place.

Kuliman is a third player supposedly on their radar though the Pens are concerned with his consistency.

Take it for what it's worth. The guy seems to have some pretty good sources however.
