How about a trade for Boedker & Yandle from Phoenix in order to recreate the deal that brought in LeClair & Desjardins?

do we have Recchi?

as my post indicated. but why leighton is in this org, i'll never understand. he is a poor choice for b/u because he requires steady work to approach the level of an nhl tender.

I think the informed majority realize Leighton has no business being here, but in the grand scheme of things on the concern meter, worrying about Leighton is like having a severed jugular, and worrying about a hangnail.

I saw an interesting tweet last night that suggested the Flyers kept Leighton on as back-up in order to lessen the pressure on Bryz. Basically, no matter how poorly Bryz played, the fans would always prefer him over Leighton. Intriguing thought to be sure although this seems too much of conspiracy theory to me.
- NickTheKid87

would not be surprised, but boosh has a similar profile. either way, i see bryz getting bought out unless he plays at a vezina level this yr. and possibly briere too, for that matter

They could have accomplished the same with any number of back up goalies.

I think they recognized that Bryzgalov plays better when he has a heavy workload. My guess is that they felt Leighton was a good guy for going to the AHL and not complaining and rather than have a young guy stagnate behind Bryz, they'd give Leighton a shot.

LeClair and Desjardins - maybe once in a lifetime.

Honestly, I'm ignorant (as are most fans) as to what is available AND what it takes to get them. We'll see. I just was dropping a little theory that we may want to go after a stud winger if available at the right price.

Here is my thoughts, when everyone healthy:

Harts G Stud Winger TBD
Schenn Briere Simmonds
Read Coots Voracek
REST OF GARBAGE ON 4th.

Yeah I agree. I think Leighton fits the bill for the workload he's projected to get. I can't see him playing more than 10 games tops (baring injury) and if he can go 4-6 in those games then I'll be happy.

The Flyers defense it too often the target for overall bad team defense. The forwards aren't getting back. This was a problem in the Jersey series last year as well. There is no consequences for not back checking either. Briere is one if the biggest culprits and he is suppose to be a veteran leader.

The thing is, an very real and valid argument could be made that Boucher is more suited to the role being asked of Leighton. Boucher has shown that he can be a highly effective backup, who will put up solid numbers in sporadic play, where as Leighton has struggled more without the steady workload.

I don't think we need a "stud" winger. I like the idea of getting a guy like Patric Hornqvist if he became available (via trade or free agency) because he's a proven goal scorer on a lack luster offensive team. He's scored 30/21/27 goals the past 3 years without a legit #1 center while a guy like Bobby Ryan has scored 35/34/31 playing in a more offensive system on line with Getzlaf, Perry and sometimes Selanne the majority of the time. Ryan gets paid $5.1m and Hornqvist gets paid $3.083m. Hornqvist is the better two-way player as well.

I agree. Boucher is a proven backup (something I'm sure he just dreamed of being as a youngster ) while Leighton has struggled to hold down that job. Leighton would be a much better AHL starter than an NHL backup.

Right now, though, as PLind points out, Leighton's play is more annoyance than crippling injury.

I agree, but I do think if his next game is similar, he flip-flops with Boosh.

I still think had Read potted that wide open look, last night might be a different story. All momentum changed after that kill.

I sort of agree with you, but let me take the flip side of things. Dumping Timmo and the others is no big deal in the long-term (they are all short term players). But would you be active in trading for one of the Anaheim forwards (UFA in the offseason)? If you don't, perhaps they go to another team and then that team re-signs for LT.

Just food for thought. I would love an upgrade at winger - more realistic IMO than a superstart D-man.

- Daman

I would try to get Perry at the end of the season....since we will have money to throw out...then get Ryan TDL next year or in the offseason. We have an awesome nucleus, i dont want to see them trade anyone in order to try to salvage this season...Let the kids get the bumps, learn and grow from this.
