how shortsighted it is to hang a guy's reputation on 1 goal and forget his play in the BOS & MTL series that year.

I think if Bryz is in goal you get a 2-1 game

Still a loss - and still more of an indictment of the 18 skaters.

Up high as in, high in the zone.. it wasnt deflected right in front of the net.

Ah, gotcha! Still that puck got on him very quick, and I can't fault him for that.

That's the way sports are. Bill Buckner had a borderline Hall of Fame Career. He's remembered for one thing, and one thing alone.

Leighton is a career journeyman who hasn't had any real success at the NHL level. Of course he's going to get roasted for allowing a Stanley Cup deciding goal in the fashion he did.

Honestly, if you're blaming Leighton for the loss last night-or at least making him the primary scapegoat, you're either nursing a grudge or a moron.

He played poorly. So did everyone else on the team. I don't particularly care for Leighton, and his play was a factor. But he's not the guy that caused the loss.

I was thinking the same thing. Good chance they wouldnt have been in the finals without his play. Not too mention didnt his playoff run get him a two year contract?

I sure as heck hope not. If they didn't want to resign a veteran Carle for $5+ million a year, Homer better not give that unproven piece of garbage $5.5+million plus Couturier/Schenn/Read and picks for him. If they didn't go after DelZotto, I sure hope they don't go after Subban.

People need to stop panicking about the d.. yeah, they stink right now.. but last time I checked, the offense isn't exactly helping out either (with the exception of Fl).. not to mention, Gus and Bourdon will be healthy soon. Sad part is, Timonen has been the worst of them so far. Gervais and Foster have both looked pretty decent most of the time. So brining in a dman to replace either of them wont magically help the team win.

You just cannot throw that much money and a role player at Subban... especially since he's nothing but a cancer on and off the ice. If it continues on this way, look to draft a dman or look to the FA market. But all of this talk of getting Subban is making me sick. I keep praying Montreal signs him asap..

Is it really necessary to call a guy "garbage"? Did he do something to your family?

Meszaros will be back, as will Gustafsson. Gotta ride the lightning injury storm out.

I kind of agree. He's not as bad as that last goal, but he's not as good as he was against BOS & MTL, either. That was some serious lightning in a bottle stuff.

That is not a knock on the guy because Lord knows I'd love to be as good as he and make a living playing professional hockey. He is barely a servicable backup NHL goalie, and if given a start it must be done with a very careful eye on the opponent and how the Flyers themselves are playing otherwise we get what we got last night. He is an AHL goalie.

PS: Yes, the rest of the team is more the reason for the loss last night, but that doesn't change the goaltending analysis, imho.

Spot on Scoob. My problem isn't with Leighton, he is what he is. My issue is why is he here? Cord should have been cut long ago.

The mood of the board is more mercurial than a 17 year old cokehead w/ her monthly visitor.

Saturday, some were ready to re-write the bible and anoint Matt Read as the new J.C.

Sunday, half the posters are dialing the suicide hotline.

Time to chill. This team just needs to make the playoffs. Harts, and all his athleticism, will be back. Briere can take over center soon. Maybe most importantly, Mez will be back. We need him.

With a healthy D and a hot Bryz, we have a chance to make some noise in the playoffs. Really the same formula for most teams - good D, some talent up front, and a hot goalie.

So I hope everyone enjoys the week. Maybe some nice weather. A fresh change to raise everyone's spirits.

Good day all.

Cheers!

It's one game. We saw Timonen, Coburn, and other players come into their first game action out of the lockout and struggle. Leighton deserves the same benefit of the doubt. He can play much better then he did last night.

he stinks...no reason to bring back this virus in goal in any capacity in the org. his rebound (lack of) control is old news, very predictable.

I would rather have a different backup too but to mention the Kane goal from the finals and not give credit for the two previous series isnt quite fair. Like you said he got hot at the right time and unfortunately that ended on a bad angle goal but that shouldnt discredit what happened in the playoffs as a whole.

they were def going to lose last nite because of the effort, but don't underestimate the effect of knowing you have zero margin for error w/ that guy in net. it's disheartening to say the least.

He doesn't stink. He's shown he can play in this League, and play well. What makes him a virus. It seems there is some kind of animosity that you have and pre-conceived bias against him. He did not play well last night. He looked rusty, and his technique was off. I fully expect him to get better as the Season goes along. And I'll judge him on that play, and not anything else.

The fact that the Flyers have already given up in two games this season really scares me. No team that quits can ever come close to a Stanley Cup. Something needs to change with this teams attitude.
