The staggering thing is, when you look around the league, MDZ and Subban really took a hit in the wallet.

A lot of guys got 4-6 years with #4mm+ cap hits.

I applaud both the Rangers and the Habs for negotiating sensible deals, for good young, but not fully established players coming off of EL deals. This is how it should be. Players that age unless they're an absolute superstar, shouldn't be making 5-6M a year. Maybe other GM's will take note and follow.

NHLnumbers is also frequently wrong. Just a quick glance at it, they have the wrong numbers for Bourdon.

Same as capgeek factoring rounding which probably isn't a good idea

subban projects as a future norris trophy candidate. don't see that for del zotto.
- isaiah520

Subban is either going to have to get much better defensively, or put up point totals like Karlsson. I think that is a little bit of a stretch for Subban right now.

I know I've told the story before about Phil Esposito and the Lightning, but here goes again.

Espo fronted for a group of Japanese investors. Tampa was considered a dark horse, not only because of location, but because the investors preferred to keep a low profile.

When they went to make their presentation to the BOG, Esposito told them to make sure they had a Cashier's Check for the full expansion fee($50mm back then). Espo led the pitch by saying that the group would be happy to pay the full expansion fee up front and then pulled out the check.

That's why there's two teams in Florida.

I remember your telling of this story last year. Still turns my stomach.

I'd rather not punish any poor Ozzy t shirts like that.

I understand that. I just don't know if Subban is ever going to reach that level.

That's where the real information is. The Cap is calculated Daily. When you get to the homepage, click on the little box next to the team name with 14 in it.

I wouldn't be surprised if Montreal truly never intended to trade Subban. Perhaps Bergevin told Holmgren, "No deal, unless he's part of a trade for Giroux."
