Who knows, perhaps Bogosian could get significantly closer to Weber level performance. If my forensic wikipedia investigation is correct, he's five years younger. Not a bad trade target in the least!

I like him a lot. He's played on some pretty bad teams. I would trade B. Schenn and a second for him. Not sure if that would get it done.

Except you're using stats in such a limited way, it really doesn't help your point.

If you just look at +20 vs +9, sure, +20 is better. But when you actually dig deeper you see different.

Del Zotto was +20, while averaging 22:26 minutes a night on a good team that had a +39 goal differential.

Subban was +9 on a bad team, playing 24:18 minutes a night. His team's goal differential was -14.

Subban's advanced stats, such as Corsi & Fenwick show that his overall game was superior to Del Zotto, especially when he carried a much heavier load in key areas like quality of competiton faced and zone starts.

Hard to use team stats to compare 2 teams that play a completely different game to me.

They're all subjective.

Right now the Flyers have 3 spots open for next year. Meszaros, Schenn, and Coburn have three spots. That's not a bad group to build around. If they can land that top pairing type guy then it can be solid d core.

I don't think Timonen will be back.

He's had some bad luck for sure. I feel bad for him, busted his ass to get back from the achillies. The thing is, the hit he took didn't look that bad, must have got him in the worst spot.

I worry about Meszaros' health moving forward. Guy is turning into a Slovakian Carlo Colaiacovo. That said, Schenn and Coburn are not bad building blocks. Grossmann, too, if he's around can be a solid 2nd pair stay at home guy.

They also could use Gustafsson and Gervais in the 6/7th spots, which isn;t bad, either. Holmgren does have pieces in place

I forgot about Grossmann. He's under contract for next year as well. I do worry about his knees somewhat. Yeah Meszaros has had some bad luck with injuries lately. Hopefully he can shake that soon. Gervais/Gusty/MAB if healthy are more than capable of holding down a third pairing role.

As crazy as this sounds, I'm equally concerned with the lack of scoring, than the defense.

We definitely have the core in place. Just need that one elusive guy at the top.

I think we can get a deal done with PHX. They need a young forward as badly as we need a blue chip D guy.

Which is why I used Corsi & fenwick, which are not subjective.

Also, using team stats to fully examine the +/- stats that you introduced to the discussion really underscores the importance of Subban, because +/- is flawed as a stand alone stat. It can not be fully utilized unless you look at it in conjuction with the team's performance.

So, is it more subjective when you toss out one or two stats to prove a player's worth or when somebody else digs deeper and uses a whole wide range of stats?

I worry mightily about Grossmann's knees. I also worry about how long this crackdown on obstruction will last. More stringent penalty calling hurts him more than anyone else

The possibilty of a deal with the Coyotes seems to be overlooked. They have a ton of good young defensemen, and now that salary can be traded, it makes it seem more likely that the Flyers could go after a guy like Yandle...although I suspect that Phoenix will demand a premium

It's a discussion. Not an argument.

If you don't want to have discussions, especially on points that you raise, that's fine. I'll simply make an effort to avoid engaging you in a discussion.

It's been called a pretty deep draft. Same goes for next year's.

OB18 follows juniors more closely than I do, but he's mentioned quite a few names on that list in our conversations

I wouldn't mind hanging onto all our picks this year. That is, unless the right deal for a young blueliner comes along.

Hell, unless it's for a good young defenseman or another fairly young guy that improves on what we have up front, I'd like to add to the pick stockpile

I'm better off doing that with a few 'round here. Problem is my "ignore" list is longer than my "respond" list.

I recall us discussing Nurse, Poluck, Domi, Rychel, Hartman & McCoshen.

I also recall discussing Mantha with somebody, but it wasn't OB-possibly one of his CHL guru guys on twitter
