That'll shock me if he signed for that. What was the reason for the holdout if that's the case? If this is the term can you imagine how low the "insulting" offer was?
- canadianpenfan

Maybe he just wanted to get back to playing. He's still young and two years is plenty time for him to improve, up the ante on negotiations and clear the air about some if the questions surrounding his character. A small pr victory now could be a huge payday later.

So P.K. Subban re-ups with MTL, two years, $2M in Year 1 and $3.75M in Year 2 for $2.875M AAV.

flyers need to learn to work deals like that, for players like that

It's true. Bob M just tweeted it. I don't get it. Seeing these terms, I'm thinking an offer sheet may have worked.

The staggering thing is, when you look around the league, MDZ and Subban really took a hit in the wallet.

A lot of guys got 4-6 years with #4mm+ cap hits.

Yep. I think Subban is a better player than Del Zotto, by a decent margin, too.

Hard for him to sign an offer sheet when he wasn't offered any.

Do you compare them as players? I think Subban will be head and shoulders better in 2 years.

I do, too. Subban is a much more complete player and I feel he has a higher ceiling than MDZ.

The interesting thing will be when this deal is done. Does Subban hold the Habs hostage after a tough negotiation that they pretty clearly won?

probably some backroom deal the owners made to stop jacking up player salaries...

They probably all agreed to never do it again.

Maybe it's a sign of the new CBA. Shero should offer Letang 5/20 before inflation kicks in again

The owners have to save themselves from themselves... so it would make sense...

Who knows. Probably not. But if Montreal got wind of a team extending an offer sheet, it may have lead to a sign and trade.

I think the one thing this contract tells me is that Subban will be out of Montreal after 2 years.

The odd thing is, the reported deal seems to violate the new CBA terms for variance. Deals are not supposed to be able to be more or less than 35% from one year to another and no one year can be more than 50% less than the highest salaried year.

Good luck with that... i hate Letang.. but i'd love to have him.

Subban has a great deal of talent. But Talent alone doesn't make a great defender.

His offensive side of the game is above average... but defensive side still needs work. He is young... so if he has his head on right he could be something special down the road.

Right now? He's just another dman with potential, albeit young and offensively gifted.

Subban has averaged 37 points a season the last two years as a 21 and 22 year old. He's a very good player right now, with a very high ceiling. Maturity is the only concern with him.

That really is the lone concern. Still worth the risk to me.

Hell, it's just possible he really wanted to stay a Canadien. Bergevin got a great value for the short term, but I suspect if Subban continues to progress in his current career arc, his next deal will carry a $6 or even $7mm cap hit

He's not a bad player by any stretch. 37 points a year doesn't impress me. No matter how old is he.

His offensive game is nice.. but he's also playing on a montreal team that racks up points on the power play year in and year out.

edit: 32 points on the power play in 2 years...
