CapGeek shows the Flyers under the cap using no LTIR. How would gus's cap hit exceed the LTIR allowance of pronger?
- jstross

That's because they are under the Cap using no LTIR. Gustafsson's Cap hit wouldn't exceed the LTIR allowance of Pronger.

How much cap space do they really want to bank? Hartnell. Mez, Pronger, Walker is some serious LTIR space.
- jstross

As much as they possibly can. You don't want to use the LTIR exemption unless you absolutely need to, so you don't do damage to your cap next season. By banking the space, the Flyers can handle any bonuses achieved this year and won't have to carry them under the lower cap next season.

You cannot bank LTIR Cap space. That is use it or lose it. You can bank Cap space under the Upper Limit. The exemption for Meszaros and Hartnell is temporary. Possibly the same for Walker.

So they could call up gus and easily stay under the cap. It's a personnel decision or one to save cap space for a possible trade?

It's to save space for next year as much as anything else. Say a kid on his ELC achieves bonus. If the Flyers don't bank space, they have to carry the bonus against next season's cap.

They could do a number of things. They could waive and demote Foster. They could Waive and demote a Forward. Or they could use LTIR. There is a roster limit to be concerned with also.

Keep in mind that Laughton as of today was still on the Flyers Cap on Capgeek.

I think that the question is why is it a bad idea to use the LTIR exemption for Gustafsson, not so much what they'd have to do to fit him in.

Then you answered it. Bonus Cushion Cap penalties. Plus when using LTIR, you aren't banking Cap space.

Being lazy, I didn't look at the roster when the convo started, and didn't realize that Laughton was still listed, so it would be as simple as sending Foster down and bringing in Gus to stay out of the LTIR

You said you can't bank LTIR, but you can bank cap space under the upper limit, correct? So every day LTIR isn;t used the cap space der the upperlimit is 'banked'?

NHLNUMBERS is a little simpler. They have the Flyers at -1.805 in cap space at this time. I'd have to see the difference, but I'm guessing they are factoring the bonus'

I trust capgeek's numbers a bit more, they are the most proactive in keeping their info updated.

Anyone else see that as absurd?

I just like that nhlnumbers already added in the bonuses and shows Bouchier's cap hit as 50K(no need to decipher the rule to do 950K-900K=50K). It also shows partials like Laughton's hit at 92K.

Some little things I think read easier to the average Joe.

That is certainly not an equitable distribution of the schedule.

Do not discount the possibility that this Tampa team is very, very good.

This part I can agree with.

If Salo stays healthy (well it is a short season, stranger things have happened) and their goaltending holds up, they should win the SE division handily.

If the ice was better Stamkos probably would have a hat trick last night.

I really hope Jake Voracek steps up his game soon. He was at times their best skater in the play off series last year. He has not looked anything like that so far.

There are certain systems that our system doesn't match up well against... TB/NJ/NYR are the main 3 that i can think of...

Tampa has a hell of a team and a hell of a coach down here.

BTW.. this weekend was Gasparilla in Tampa... its like Tampa Bays mardi grai... maybe the boys went out too late the night before?

Devils and Flyers have 10.

Rangers and Pens have 7.

You would think they would even it out more.

I really need to do the counting at the beginning of the day... waiting till 6pm to add things doesn't seem to be all that great for me
