Jonathon Blum is a defensemen I think the Flyers should add on the cheap this year. He is currently 7th dmen on the Predators. He showed a lot two playoffs ago before slipping last year with a bad attitude.
- psuhockey

Blum might cost too much but I wouldn't mind taking a shot at him. That is, if all of our bridges haven't been burnt with Nashville.

so if this trend continues and the team is say, 6-12-2 after 20 gms, what does homer do?
- isaiah520

If that happens he better start planning for next season.

Here's the difference. Islanders don't have Edmonton's forward surplus plus Niederreiter is a year younger than Paajarvi (so he's a year further away from potentially being trade bait instead of part of the long-term plan).
- bmeltzer

Niederreiter has requested a trade though. That has to play into how the Islanders deal with him also.

There are no bridges in Nashville, just Moats.

In terms of adding a forward, I would not be against seeing if the Flyers could perhaps buy low on the struggling Magnus Pääjärvi. I may be the last one left who thinks he's going to put it all together at some point after tough early years and his first team giving up on him-- think Markus Näslund. Edmonton is so loaded with other young forward talent that Pääjärvi is expendable.

Of course, D is the Flyers top priority. But if you add another forward (assuming he pans out) then there is less pain in considering trade options. In addition, it's a cheaper option than going after a big ticket winger in the summer.

Just some random thoughts on a blah Monday.

if cousins wasn't facing those charges...

prob have to check the odds at bovada for the off season buyout derby...leaders in the clubhouse at that point would likely be bryz and danny.

I just don't see how that would have made a difference. The team played bad from start to finish. I can't imagine having Bryz in net would have changed all that much.
- NickTheKid87

You could very well be right but even in games where the team is brutal, these are the games where you get to see what our number one goalie is really made out of. A chance to steal one for us.

Don't undersell the marketing possibilities of having a guy named "Nino" playing in South Philly.....

The timing may not be right now, but one of these yrs, I truly believe Bobby Ryan will be a Flyer.

The fact that Boosh was playing in the NHL, as a backup, compared to Leighton who didnt make it to that even.. is telling, in and of itself. Leighton got hot, but was also helped out tremendously by a fantastic defense that year. He played very well, but his luck obviously ran out.
- jak521

First off, I'm not a huge Leighton fan (but, neither a boosh fan)

Leighton skip the backup roll a few years ago and moved into the #1 job. He's spend a lot of time in the AHL, mainly due to numbers and I believe Homer was protecting Leighton by not moving him up and back risk losing him to waivers(maybe thats a stretch). Boucher has shown anything special in the past few years. I thought that Leighton, really benefited by the goalie coaches in Phl. And, I think his game is a step above since being in Phl. My point is the it's probably a push at this point.

nope, didn't say I wanted to discuss it. I said I hope his play so far this year is because he's nursing an injury.
- FlyerGuy

Or maybe he's struggling right now like the rest of the team is. And an injury, or the C, or anything else really isn't a factor.

I'd assume that there is a NMC/NTC. Which means - if they want to move him - destination is his to choose. And, we know that he's partial to Phl... So, if he does move before 2023, it might be Phl.
