At least Tampa didn't add insult to injury by wearing those awful "BOLTS" jerseys.

yeah agreed lets be real here, theyre both 30 plus goal scorers but one would be just fine
- Flyers4Life88

Both really good players but there are more pressing needs for this team than to stock up on forwards when we already have something close to a surplus.

I can't believe more fans are not mentioning how awful Voracek has been so far this season. I think most figured he could build of last year, but seems to me hes regressing, he looks most times non interested, and his speed is really looking pathetic, He lost a partial breakaway against Jovanoski the other night, he had a step on him and Jovo caught him very quickly. His one timers are dreadful...

Anything can be discussed. But do you really think were at a point to suggest Giroux getting the C is an issue? I sure don't.
- MJL

I think I agree. But there are some players who take on too much and it can be a weight. Giroux is a great young player and a natural leader. Perhaps he finds some extra pressure because of the captaincy. I just don't think he would let it weigh him down.

In terms of adding a forward, I would not be against seeing if the Flyers could perhaps buy low on the struggling Magnus Pääjärvi. I may be the last one left who thinks he's going to put it all together at some point after tough early years and his first team giving up on him-- think Markus Näslund. Edmonton is so loaded with other young forward talent that Pääjärvi is expendable.

Of course, D is the Flyers top priority. But if you add another forward (assuming he pans out) then there is less pain in considering trade options. In addition, it's a cheaper option than going after a big ticket winger in the summer.

Just some random thoughts on a blah Monday.

focus that money on D.

Do you wish they would have signed Carle to the contract the Bolts did? Wish we had him back but seemed like too much money.

Giroux looks like he's shaking rust off his game....nothing more than that. Remember, he did get hurt playing in Germany and was on the shelf for a bit.

I wouldn't waste cycles worrying about Giroux. He'll be fine.

Exactly. I'd rather add something equivalent to Perry and/or Ryan on defense than on those two guys.

I think the ineptitude on special teams as well as the lack of scoring are the main concerns right now. Flyers have scored 6 goals in 5 games if you remove the Florida game from the equation. That isn't going to get it done.

Bill, I like the way you think. Paajarvi has potential. What do you think the Flyers could get him for? Pick/prospect?

It was a smart move by Laviolette to play Leighton against the Bolts. It was bound to be a let down game with the schedule the way it was. And this gives Bryzgalov two days off before facing the Rangers on Tuesday. Where he is going ot need to be very good for the Flyers to win.
- MJL

As summarized last night, Da Man told you before the game that a loss was likely.
Dark Side is telling you after. Where is the value?

I wish we would have signed Carle in the beginning of last season. The minute he hit FA i wanted nothing to do with him.

I agree. Boucher is a proven backup (something I'm sure he just dreamed of being as a youngster ) while Leighton has struggled to hold down that job. Leighton would be a much better AHL starter than an NHL backup.
- NickTheKid87

Wait... Boucher a proven backup? What does proven mean, that he's been a NHL backup, not necessarily a good one. Boucher in the past 6 seasons isn't stellar. Maybe in the past he was good, but his record over the past several years is average at best. Leighton hasn't been in the backup roll in a while. So, who say's he's not going to be any good. His game changed in the past several years, I never would have guessed that he'd take us deep into the playoffs.

Boucher
2012 Car 10games 1-6-1 (Not good)
2011 Phl 34games 18-10-4 (Good)
2010 Phl 33games 9-18-3 (Not good)
2009 SJ 22games 12-6-3 (Good)
2008 SJ 5games 3-1 (n/a)
2007 Chi/CBJ 18games 2-11-3 (Not good)

Leighton
2012 AHL (n/a)
2011 Phl 1game 1-0-0 (n/a)
2010 Phl/Car 34games 17-9-2 (Starter)
2009 Car 19games 6-7-2 (OK)
2008 Car 3games 1-1-0 (n/a)
2007 Nas/Phl 5games 2-2-0 (n/a)

The fact that Boosh was playing in the NHL, as a backup, compared to Leighton who didnt make it to that even.. is telling, in and of itself. Leighton got hot, but was also helped out tremendously by a fantastic defense that year. He played very well, but his luck obviously ran out.

Why is it people want to trade Schenn or Simmonds, Why do we never hear Voracek? IMHO He is tradeable more so then the others.

yeah i mean i think the flyers expectations for schenn are very high, they dont want him to just skate around throw his weight and grab a point here and there...I'm not saying he should change his game, but with defensive forward depth with coots talbot rusty etc. it wouldnt hurt to see schenn spend some more time with the puck and goto work in the offensive zone..

That's the thing. Not sure if it would take a roster player or not. Edmonton hasn't completely given up on him yet but they seem close.

Flyers are going to have to develop or make a deal for a high end Dman. Teams are now signing their RFA #1 Ds to mega long term contracts (Myers, Doughty, Karlsson). This summer Shattenkirk and Pietrangelowillbe RFAs but St. Louis will lock thEm up pretty tight.

Perhaps the Flyers need to decide that they are going to pay the price.
