Were you claiming he shouldn't have been signed because he's "injury prone" - I suspect not....if so point me to the posts. The injury prone thing is bs.
- BlowMonkey

I don't bookmark my posts, I don't even know what thread it would be in. But as far as I can remember, yes, his history of injuries was one of the reasons I didn't like the term of the signing. The main reason I didn't like it was his age and the amount of time they signed him for (although older players are more prone to injuries, not 29 year old but I mean when he's towards the end of his deal).

Put it this way: If Nonis had not re-signed him so quickly what position would we be in? Well, either we have the option to walk away from him in the offseason if we want or we can re-sign him for far, far less money and term considering we have huge negotiating leverage.

By signing him when we did what did we gain? Possibly saving a bit on the cap hit but that is 100% based off of him remaining at a level of play he was at last year. How do we know he doesn't regress to a 50 point player? We don't because he was signed so quickly we didn't even see what he was capable of.

I'm on record for saying they will not be a bottom 5 team, if I'm wrong, you guys know where to find me, I will accept the heat.
- LeafMan

I believed at the start of the season that IF the team bought into the Carlyle system, that they would not be blown out, that they would be competitive in most games, and would be fighting for a playoff spot.

If they didn't adhere to the system, they would be a top 5 draft team.

So far it appears they have bought into it, and the results have shown a dramatic improvement.

Dude....... its a fractured forearm.

Not a torn ACL.

Fractured forearm would have no bearing in diminishing his open market value.

A lot of people were upset about the signing... so.. point not valid.

(I'm not one of them, btw)

- Feeling Glucky?

No contract in the history of hockey has ever been or will ever be signed where all the fans are happy. Some don't like the term some don't like the money whatever. My point is more about the people coming in saying "oooh I knew we shouldn't have signed him because he's injury prone" nobody was saying that - it's bs.

Hmmm, the Leafs will get blown out by Buffalo you said, nope, the Leafs will get blown out by the Pens, you said, ahh no.

Wanna try for the Islanders tonight? I still hold to my prediction that the Leafs will not finish where many of you are hoping they will, accept it now and you won't be disappointed when it happens.

- LeafMan

I don't know if you're talking to me, I don't think I said they'd get blown out by Buffalo but I definitely thought they would lose. I think they'll win against the Islanders, like I said a few days ago.

I'll point one thing out thought: I'm not cheering against the Leafs. Last night I was pumped watching the game. My wife and her brother are Sens fans and I was watching the game and I was rubbing it in their faces every time we scored and complaining every time we got called for a penalty. I hope that they do make the playoffs this year, nothing would make me happier (well, winning the Cup, obviously). I just don't have a lot of faith that they will live up to those hopes.

I'm on record saying that I have no clue whatsoever what will happen with the Leafs. I don't know if they are a playoff team or the worst in the East. I can't figure it out. It wouldn't surprise me if they finished in the 6th slot (any higher would be astounding) all the way to the 15th slot, I just hope it's one of those extremes and not 12th as usual.

Weird, none of those say 82 games from what I'm looking at...

Edit: okay, admittedly, that's semantic argument. Even without that if you look at recent history (which is the only thing that matters in sports) there should be some alarm bells going off.

Bottom line is if the Habs or Canucks or whoever signed a guy who was 29 and hasn't played a full season in his career to a five year contract extension two games into the season and then he got hurt everyone here would be chirping them for being so stupid. Somehow when it's the Leafs, though, it's still a good deal. I don't get it.

- deerow84

You mean kind of like one year wonder Jason Garrison and the contract he got? Those guys loved it.

My Leafs TV online feed, better not freeze tonight... like it did for the first few games last year.

But I must say, the online picture quality has improved, quite a bit.

I'm hoping they will be a playoff team or even close to it only because I want to see the tankers here get the "hope they lose" thrown back into their faces, people know my stance on tanking, no reason to rehash it again.

So what are the projected line combos for tonight then? I guess we'll find out in a couple of hours but I'm going to be in meetings all day starting at 10 so I won't find out until after work.

My guess is JVR to the top line, Frattin on the third line and the Grabs, Mac, Kulemin line together again. Not sure though.

Has it been confirmed Frattin has been called up?

I'm thinking it will be Connolly if anyone makes it for tonight's game

Last night Reimer gave us the chance to win.
It would be nice to have a goalie that can steal games but all I ask is our goalies give us the chance to win every night if the forwards don't poop the bed.

It was a good team effort and Kessel was flying on forcheck and backcheck!
