Agree, just looking at the cap list now.
There are a few guys there who rightfully deserve some sort of raise, as Gunnarsson, Franson, and Bozak are all making south of 2m and while we all chirp Bozak for not being a legit no. 1 centre, if he goes out there and produces like he did last season he can probably justify asking for a deal like Mac's on right now, in the 3-3.5 range.
Now on to the story of Mac. It's hard to say how management feels about him. He makes 3.25 per, and as long as he's a 20+ goal guy, he probably deserves it. However, it'll be interesting to see what he demands this summer. Remember, the leafs resurrected his career just as they did with Loops. Hopefully Mac's loyal to the team and doesn't become greedy.
As for Franson and Gunnarsson, the savings from losing Komi's 4.5 will cover the raises these two defenders deserve(in my opinion). I both see them as 2.5m per guys - AngryWhiteMale
Thats why the Lupul deal has me nervous. Ive seen nothing that shows me he can be one of our best players, especially for that long, without missing chunks of a season. It limits what we can do now in the FA market. Yes we can all look at injuries and say thats held Lupul back, but to think its all gone away is wishfull thinking. He is one of my favourite players on the team, so it pains me to say that this was not a good deal for the team. Shorter term would have been best, and at worst, trade him at the deadline for picks/prospects. Long term, this wasnt the best move for the team IMO.
I dont know, tough call on this one... |

I pretty much figured Lupul was going to re-up when they changed "Luke's Troops" to "Lupe's Troops". He wouldn't take over that leadership role if he was gonna bail |

Lupul re-signing is iffy. Guy was undoubtedly great last year, and you could argue that he'd turned a corner before his injury(10 goals in 20 games or something like that?)... but the sample size is too small for a 5 year deal. Especially now that you can't just waive him if he struggles.
If he can continue to put up points like last season, it's a great deal. Otherwise... |

There is a Flyers and Sabres game on, so yes, something happened to warrant that comment. |

Agreed, I say either Nucks or Detroit miss the playoffs this year. - LeftCoaster
Detroit finishes 4th last and wins the lottery > drafts Jones > replaces Lidstrom.

If they can get a first for Mac, or even a 2nd, I think they should. A prospect, or guy like JVR could very well fill his role on that line. |

I agree, I think the Oilers young guns win this one easily after what I saw last night.
As for Schneider, he's been terrific over the past couple years. One game. Lupul didn't have a point last night, he destined to have a terrible season. (jk) - LeftCoaster

This is the veteran presence they want around the younger players, I don't mind it, sometimes a player like Lupul adds more to a team than just points. |

i undrstand that in a non cap system, but thats an expensive price tag to give a guy to give pump up stories in the dressing room before games.
With that contract the leafs just gave him you better believe they expect him to put up big points. |

Asset management. If he wants a raise, and we've got other people to pay, he's out the door. May as well get something for him. A guy like Domi, for example. |
