it wasnt against either of those teams though, it was against montreal. A team with very little offense ability and needed the leafs to make a big mistake to have an opportunity to tie the game. The Leafs didn't make that mistake and picked up the win. - Sammich
So a team with more offense Carlyle is more likely to play loose?...I dont think so.
Although i think he should |

a pair of back surgeries and a lethal blood infection ? - poohcrumbs
Seperated shoulders are a one time fluke. In fact, once you seperate a shoulder, it will never be an issue for the rest of your life. It stays in place forever. Roboshoulder syndrome is what they call it. |

What's that have to do with anything? Was he playing net? because Jonathan Quick won that Cup for them. Carter has eclipsed 70pts once in his career and that was 4 years ago. |

listen, i see your point
lets look at it this way, since he was traded from philly all the time lost was due to 2 injuries
2 injuries in 5 years
injury prone? - Dozzer
It was a pretty major injury.
Just the same way if Crosby gets hit in the head again, he's done for a long time, if somebody decides to cross check Lupul across the back, he could be done for a long time.
Back injuries usually become chronic, especially with a guy who is entering his 30s. Back spasms could become a common thing as he gets older. |

Agree. His salary, points and intagibles arent the issue for me. Just term. 2-3 years would have been perfect.
Mac and Komi have to go if we have any prayer of improving this club through free agency this summer. With teams needing to get under the cap, it would be wise to have a decent budget to work with. - systemtool
It was an extra million dollars over what he is making this year, I don't see how they will have issues fitting that under the cap.
Why would you rather a 3 year deal. Why not lock up players for more years, especially guys that are leaders. Why would you rather go through trying to resign he guy in years when he may be able to command more money |

2 injuries that equaled to how many games lost? - Lee Denault
who cares?
what because his surgery went bad and he got an infedction that must mean he is injury prone right?
the number of games has NOTHING to do with the number of injuries.
he has been injured twice. and once was nearly career ending
i guess by your logic gary roberts was injury prone because he broke his neck and only played 104 games out of 368 over the course of 4 years right? |

H. sedin cap hit=6.1mill
B. richards =5.75
st. louis =5.6
zetterberg=6 mill
all these players are far better, I really hate this deal, - ky678468
I don't think anyone's arguing with your logic.
The fact is that we're not a hot-spot for free agents. I don't mind us making an offer for Getz, but the fact is that there's a bunch of other places these guys would rather play than TOR, and you could make the argument that those three guys all took modest discounts in order to get term in a city they want to play in.
We'll probably never be a hot-spot for UFAs until we make it past the first round and show teams we can compete. until then, we need to take risks on the guys who want to stay.
As long as this deal doesn't jeopardize our medium-long term cap situation then it's not bad. The was we do that is by ensuring Komi and Mac, with their 8 mil in cap, are jettisoned for more worthy players like Frattin, Kostka, Percy etc. |

fair enough, however, they havent been an issue for him as of yet. sp until it proves to be a major problem (which in fairness could happen in 3 or 4 years) it should be a non discussion.. and if it does creep up when he is 33-34.. there will only be a year or two tops left on his contract. |

Lups is not a sure thing to be durable. which has been noted by burn and lou.
I don;t know what to tell ye. im skeptical he can stay healthy. I hope he does. obviously.
But none of us know the future..the chances of me being right compared to you are 50-50 |

One more hit to Crosby's head and I'm convinced he's finished.
My only hope is that Crosby's still able to play in Sochi, which would basically guarantee we'd win the gold

I remember a few years ago Bozak's biggest flaw was missing wide open nets or great opportunities to bury the puck.
Good to see he's developed a finishing touch, which he'll need if he wants to stay on this team past this season |

Lupul is healthy now. Therefore we can ignore the evidence of the past 5 years and assume he will never get hurt like he has always gotten because he is healthy now. - systemtool
He's played 70+ more often than he hasn't and hasn't had any issues of the back/infection that started his injuries. So maybe? |

This Lupul contract shows that the team is not purposely bottoming out... but I still feel they finish bottom 5.
Looking at things from the Leafs perspective, who feels they can actually attract top free agents? I don't.... Getzlaf and Perry are a fantasy.
In Lupul they have a guy that has played well since he joined the team, was an all star last year is a fan favorite and adds some veteran presence that they need. |

Gary Roberts played 82 games once in his whole career. He got hurt a lot. But it was mostly because of his all out style. Coming back from that neck injury though was miraculous. Freak of nature.
You can't really compare Roberts to Lupul though. Roberts played at an insane pace and was always putting his body on the line. Lupul isn't anywhere near as physical and has still missed a lot of games over his career. |
