@FarhanLaljiTSN: Schroeder sent back to Chicago. #canucks confirm - Greg7705
And the anticipation builds for his pro debut probably sometime around his 30th birthday

How far is JS down the depth chart? Even with major injuries throughout the line up he still does not get a shot.
I agree. Trade the kid if he's not going to get a shot. - bloatedmosquito
I think you have to give Gillis and AV a pass on this one, you can't afford to experiment in a compressed schedule when the margin of error is so small. Experience is going to win out over potential, and how much time was JS going to actually play once Kesler gets back. Better for his development to play 20 minutes a night in Chicago then >10 minutes here. |

Apparently he is still behind Ebbett. In a short season do you really want to take your chances with a rookie on the second line? If Ebbett gives you a few points and doesn't hurt you defensively is it really such a bad thing to have Schroeder playing top 2 line minutes in the AHL? Sure it would be nice to give the kid a shot, but getting behind (record wise) with only 48 total games to play is pretty dangerous. In the end, I think it came down to the Canucks ability to send Schroeder down without waivers, instead of risking the loss of Ebbett. |

Sekeras and Price said the other day that it's come back to them that the Canucks tried to obtain Carlson last trade deadline but they didnt want Hodgson. So I guess this was one of the only 5 players that Gillis claims he'd trade CoHo for? A defenseman when they knew Kesler was injured heading for the playoffs? I wonder... - boonerbuck
Gillis has been targeting a puck mover for a while (for whatever reason), hence why he got Garrison last summer. Still, our needs are clearly up front. The back-end is going to be as good as it gets in a salary-capped team. |

Gillis is such a crusty (frank)er! - LeftCoaster
Well if there has been any doubt that Gillis is playing hardball with the Leafs, there you have it.
Gillis could more easily screw himself here with the pissing contest. He has more to lose than Nonis. Nobody expects the Leafs to make the playoffs this season, it's Nonis' first shot in a 48 games season, accountability will be minimal. Gillis screwed up pretty bad last season and hasnt done poop to improve the team yet. Anything but a division win and at least putting up a fight in the second round against a worthy opponant will be considered failure. The Leafs season is measured by draft success...

If Ebbett centers that 2nd line then this point is moot. |

Hahahahaha good luck with that. AV is the most successful head coach in Vancouver history. MG would have to screw up royally to get fired.

Our top 6 D is set, and our forward group is pretty decimated by injuries... yet AV decides the best way to proceed is by carrying 12 forwards and 9 dmen
But hey, Vandermeer can play forward too right...? |

This team is pathetic down the middle. Even a healthy Kesler doesnt produce much 5-5 on the second line. I'm a big fan of *Kesler the best 3rd liner in the NHL* though.... .

Apparently, there are plenty of teams out there looking for a centre, as Gomez is attracting a lot of attention...
Could you imagine if we lost Ebbett to waivers and Schroeder stunk, then what? |

Sure, that would have been an option too. I guess they plan on a few defensmen getting hurt pretty quick... |

The media has speculated who Toronto has offered and who Vancouver has asked for in a trade. But that is all it is, speculation. You can't judge Gillis until you have the facts. |

Av askes, Gillis delivers. Ever wonder why every year we are all asking who Gillis is going to bring in for secondary scoring and all we get is a steady parade of D instead giving us the strongest 7/8/9 in the entire NHL... and usually we are playing D on forward to start the season as Gillis looks for cast away players to fill the holes up front that the coach couldnt forsee....
The Gillis that stepped in for Nonis was impressive. He was full of his own ideas and said we were going to move to a more offensive style. He publicly challenged AV to step up and show us he's more than a one trick pony... he repeats nothing but excuses for AV these days.
Now I see a GM who has completely fallen into the trap of lookig to his arrogant narrow minded coaches for all the answers... people say get ready for D style hockey...no, that decision was made last year because they believed thats the way to win in the playoffs...they said that numerous times. Now we start the season with this style... AV's comfort zone. It's the same with new/young players... AV trumps so many moves or potential moves for Gillis that it seems pointless. Gillis just gives him what he wants... he's not at the wheel any more...

Hamhuis, Garrison and Edler all have nagging injuries of one sort or another, they'll probably miss some time at some point or other. |

A prime example is AV is going to play Vandermeer as a forward and send Schroeder down...
We are missing 2 players out of our top six and Schroeder gets sent down so a defense 2 way contract can play forward?

I think you are absolutely correct and I remember this style of hockey when he was first hired years ago. I was very close to no longer watching and wasting hard earned $ then and that is why I still hate that he is the coach. I could not watch that shytty style of hockey and if I see this again this year I may actually jump this time. |

Question is, what potential move out there is there? Top 6 forwards don't grow on trees and teams are loathe to give them up unless the return is huge. While I agree that AV probably has too much input into personnel decisions, if getting secondary scoring is going to leave you with holes elsewhere, what's the point? I'll blame Gillis for some of his trades, like the Ballard and Booth deals (although to be fair, it's too early to judge Booth yet) and the jury is still out on the Hodgson deal. Playing trap style hockey wins games, it looks awful, but it works. I'd rather us win with it, then play wide open hockey and end up like Philly and Pittsburg last year. |

So I guess you are one of those win at any cost even if the product is shyt? Not saying it's wrong but it isn't for me. I'm not going to spend my $ watching that crap, I've tried and I can't do it. |
