He's got an edge, him and X are toughening up. I like it. Mentally preparing themselves for the yearly dissappointment

DP is good at two things. 1. Sucking in net .2. Good at stopping breakaways
- Vukota

For this reason we should keep him for shootouts only

Missed the entire game how bad were they? Did DP get hurt? Did Crapuano pull the goalie with ten minutes to go? Did Grabner miss 10 breakaways?

I was there. It was mostly boring. JT dominated, Moulson scored his usual doorstep-digging-poke in, Niederreiter looked really good, Strome was average, DP stinks, and I'm pretty sure that all 'too many men' penalties that were called (at least 4) were just code for "we want to try some different special teams pairings". I think Boulton served every single one.

And what does it all mean? Literally nothing.

It was fantastic to see live hockey again though.

Staple said a minimum of two penalties per team were being called each period regardless so you're right on about special teams.

It seemed like way more. I probably only saw 2 or 3 that were actual legitimate penalties.

I'd take Redden over Gomez without even thinking about it. The guy was putting up Karrlson numbers before he was traded to the Rangers, he's less of a risk then Boyes for Christs sake.
- Cptmjl

He's a defenseman, and he can't play defense. That's why Tortorella was able to convince Dolan that he had to send a $6M albatross to Hartford. We already have a defenseman or two who put up numbers; our power play was 8th in the league last year. We need one or two who can play DEFENSE. He doesn't qualify....

Blue wins overall by scoring 3 in the shootout, nielson, moulson, grabner, DP doesn't allow a goal in the shootout...welcome to bizarro land
- Isles_since_6

DP never allows a goal in the shootout, because no one ever knows what he's going to do (in general, goalies aren't supposed to "DO" anything, but in the shootout, it works).....it's the rest of the game that is the problem. In fact, if the rules were such that we could have Nabokov play 65, and then have DiPietro work the shootouts, we'd probably win a lot more hockey games....just saying....

I would not mind seeing him get a real chance to stick. I'm not able to tell you much about Hickey.
- ses111

He's another small defenseman who can score a bit, which we have six of in the organization- I like him for depth, but that's about it. We need a defenseman who can skate, who is large, and who makes opposing players think twice about crossing the blue line while observing the puck. The only thing close to that we have right now is Hamonic, and he's not THAT big. Think Volchenkov- maybe two of him. That, more than anything else, is the difference between what we have now, and having a legitimate shot at the playoffs this year, IMO.

And as for Visnovsky...the problem is that if your kid is THAT sick, and has been that sick, why spend a week and a half d*cking around and talking other BS in regards to trying to get out of coming here? Why not make that public BEFORE the lockout ends, so you have what could at least be construed as a legitimate reason for staying in Slovakia? This is why I'm thinking his kid has the sniffles, and he's just being a d*uche... I could be wrong, but that would have to be an extremely unlucky turn of events that translate to lucky in terms of PR for the guy....just saying...

Observations last night. Nabby while rusty early on looked great. Only positive thing I can say about dp was he didn't get hurt. But almost all the goals scored lady might were on dp. Martinek was good depth signing. Hickey is very good and excellent skater with great positioning. Jt, Franz, grabs moulson ko all looked great.

Biggest observation was nino is developing quite nice. In fact, while strome was very noticeable in junior championship, he was quite invisible relative to nino last night. No I don't think he is a bust. It just goes to show how much higher the level of play is and that ahl is great place to prepare yourself.

I think nino makes his way back into lineup late season. I wouldn't bring him unless he will be on top 2 lines.

Finally reasoner is not doing anything to show He belongs.

Can everyone stop with Gomez and redden. Both would be horrible additions to the team. Gomez scores one goal per 500 games and redden cant stand out in NHL. You really want either of those bums on the team?

As for subban. I would love to have him. But to make him our highest paid dman. And lose a first second and third round pick in process? Are u nuts.

He can play D & would be in our top 4 if we were lucky enough to sign him, but im betting he gets signed by Boston.

Gomez would be the prefect low cost high reward second line center for this team till Strome is ready to play there full time in 2 seasons.

Well....we can pretend Nabokov is hurt.....every time we go to a shootout....but I believe there is a rule that prevents that....or at least there was, anyway, unless they changed it.
