At 1.5 - 2.0 a season he's not bad.
Someone will pick him up. |

Absolutely right...besides the fact he'll play for another might actually help the habs out, seeing as to how terrible he's been lately...

He's only 33 and 2 years removed from a 59 point season. Someone will throw a million at him. |

It would be the classy thing to do. - stormey
bringing him back last season was pretty classy. doing what's best for your team is more important than doing Gomez a favor. Not saying they won't buy him out before Saturday. I expect they will. But, I don't think it's unclassy to not do so, and Bergevin has an out to suggest he's doing what's best for his team. |

Are the Canadiens foolish to not only pay him his full salary, but take his enormous cap-hit and allow him to suit up for a competitor this season?
 - walshyleafsfan1
save 900k as EE mentioned and free up a spot. Need it to sign PK.
“As a result, teams would take the full cap hit on such players this season, less the $900,000 for not burying the player in the minors” |

Even if they do a compliance buy out this week, don't they still save the 900K in salary cap for not sending him to the minors? |

They are getting there full salary. It's up to them if they want to sign another contract. If Reddon doesn't want to play in the A he will likely not sign and just retire.
As for Gomez. He'll likely sign another deal for around 1 - 1.5 Mill and it won't be to be sent down. This extra Mill is all gravy.
I fail to see how this is any way negative for them. |

Katie Strang @KatieStrangESPN
#CBA Teams must place player on waivers by Thursday, player's AAV must be $3 mill or more and it will count against players' share
Katie Strang @KatieStrangESPN
#CBA Teams can use only one of these accelerated buyouts, which will then count against the two compliance buyouts allotted in new CBA

Not that the 900k on the cap will matter much, but I'd do it right now. Get over with.
If they really want to save $$$ on the cap, they should trade Kaberle and Markov at the dead line (or before) for picks. Finish the season with the kids and draft high again in June. |

Nice Blog Eric...now I'm going to read it.
EDIT : After reading it, I'm not quite sure I understand correctly...
Why are they gonna save 900K$ by putting him on waivers and leaving him at home ? - BashCH
Putting a player in the minors saves the first 900K on their cap hit. Versus the old rule allowing a team to remove a player's cap hit entirely by putting them in the Minors.
The only benefit to the Habs for letting him go now is to show him respect for his service in Montreal and to show his teamates and any potential players that may sign in Montreal that you are an organization that is willing to treat your players fairly. Remember, the rest of your team is watching, and what they decide to do with Gomez will have a effect on Morale. |

Hey,i'm not having a go. I just think "helping a competitor" an oxymoron. He scored 2 (i believe) goals last year. |
