According to me...just because a GM is demanding certain things for a player, after a long while (and the GM realizes who foolish his demands are) his price lowers to something more reasonable.
Gillis has no legs to stand on demanding multiple young players...for a 34yr old goalie with 10yr $5.3mil contract with diminishing skills, who is currently a backup goalie and wants out, with next to no suitors for him...but you guys are right, Gillis holds all the cards, - BoBBeR56
He's held all teh cards since the day after the Canucks were eliminated last year. It's a pretty complicated juggling act to keep 29 GMs on the phone while constantly upping the asking price.
He clearly could have traded Lou at any time he wanted since then. |

Oh very nice, leave it to a Van fan to be completely out of touch with reality..
1) Not a chance in hell Gard/Reilly is gona be included in any deal for Lou..Why all the sudden since Burkie was let go do you scabs in Van seem to think your gona take the leafs to the cleaners for a overpriced over contracted goalie that we really wont need for another 2-3 yrs away?Oh wait you guys have thought all along you were gona rape the leafs for him LMAO..Wont happen
2) To even suggest the Van will wait till end of the season and then buy him out is ever more retarded thinking. Why would they pay him to go away when they could get at least a bag of pucks for him and saving over 30 mill to buy him out.
You Van fans make me howl. You slam burke and yet if it wasnt for him you wouldnt be in the postion your team is in now.How soon we forget the good things he has done..Your team must think everyone is as dumb as wood,so dumb your gm actually thought that by spreading bogus rumors like Philly wanting LOu is gona get you more outa the leafs or panthers for him.HAHAHA dumbass Van fans |

Nash held all the cards in CBJ with his NTC. I beleive when that was all going down he gave the BJ's a specific list of teams he would go to. You don't think that made Howsons job more difficult.
I can't argue the contract, but if you really consider Luongo an NHL back up then I really overestimated you hockey knowledge. And as far a suitors go, there have been dozens of reports of "more then one team" in on Luongo. Maybe you can give me an exact number of how many "suitors" Luongo has. You seem to know. |

Orrrrr...
Van didn't have $10M tied up in goalies...
Orrrrr...
Van didn't have the cap issues that they'll be heading into the summer with guys like Edler still needing to resigned...
Orrrrr...
The limited market for Luongo vs. the bidding war for Nash...
Orrrrr...
A potential goalie controversy brewing in Van. What happens if Luongo stays in Van and he outplays Schneider?...
Orrrrr...
Maybe that Gillis recognizes that Van's time to win is NOW, otherwise their window could be closing...
Orrrrr...
The fact that the Sedin's are a year older...
Orrrrr...
Van didn't realize that they'd have a huge hole at 2C with Kesler down until...
The Luongo vs. Nash and Van vs. Clb situations are polar opposites. The ONLY thing that's similar is that Luongo and Nash are "big names," nothing more.

I'm quite happy to wait for the right deal, it's not like our team just fired their GM and has fans in delusion that they are in great shape. |

I would put Scooby up against and Hockey Insider. He has a barber. If he says Gardiner Lupul and a 1 st for Lu and Raymond then you can take that to the bank. |

Nope!
Is Luongo better than Bryzzy? That's debatable. HOWEVER, even if Lu is better than Bryzzy, the difference DEFINITELY not worth Couturier.
Furthermore, Bryzzy is also 2 years younger than Lu and with a shorter contract and similar cap hit (+$300k for Bryzzy)
Dream on.

Worst case, the Canucks pull Cliff Ronning out of retirement for a few weeks to hold the fort down. |

You are forgeting the value that Luongo or a Nash brings to the team he is traded to. That is how a price is established. What is a team willing to pay for Luongo servies? How desperate is the GM to shore up his goaltending position? Thoes will deterime what Luongo ends up getting traded for. Not Keslers health or the Sedins age. |
