And playing with the Sedins inflates anyone's stats, what's your point? Sorry, I just don't see Edler as that Norris calibre defenseman, he's not a pure PMD like Karlsson and he's not that heavy hitter/shot type D like Weber/Chara. He's also got a history of back problems and he still hasn't shown the type of consistency needed to be a #1 D and get paid like one. Sorry, more than maybe 4.9 mil a season (which is more than he's worth by far even allowing for inflation of D-men contracts) and we're better looking for cheaper options. I'll grant you that in certain respects, he is/can be better than Hamhuis, Bieksa and Garrison, but those traits can be reproduced in players on cheaper contracts. - DariusKnight
I agree on the back injury—that does worry me a bit. I do disagree on your point about those traits being reproduced. There's not a lot of guys that offer the same variety of skills that Edler brings to the table.
He's not Chara/Weber yet, but he still could be, and most D in the teir below are making over 5. I'd take him over Karlsson. He's far more physical, and better defensively.
It would be great if he signs for less than 5, but it would be a home town discount. I think the Canucks can't really afford to not match market value, if need be. They're not going to get equal value in a trade, and they won't find a similar player in free agency that will sign for less than 5. |

@HockeyyInsiderr: #LEAFS offer ON THE TABLE by new GM NONIS for Luongo: pick (1st OR 2nd) + COMBO of 2 out of 3 players Kadri/Bozak/Gunnarsson.

To me the big part is Gunner and the 1 st .
Iam wondering if we get a solid D what happens to Edler? We will find out in the next few days. If they can't resign him and we have Gunner then we could look at Edler for a very decent center. - VANTEL
Gunner is super underated. Salo without the shot and glass body |

4.75 is under market value for a D of his calibre. I hope he tells Gillis to (frank) off if that's all he offers. - Fosco

Gillis is on record saying he has full support of ownership to a) spend to the cap, and b) to pay the players the most he can as long as it fits within the internal salary structure. I believe he will offer Edler something that carries an actual annual salary in the 4.5m range, but with bonuses in the first year or two that bring the cap hit up to 5++m per year. Something like 22.5 m over five years plus 1.5m bonus in each of the first two years, maybe a little more. This way Edler is making the same money as the other top 4 guys in salary and he is getting the inflation bump. - 1970vintage

Edler>Karlsson? You might get some heat for that. I actually would take Karlsson andthink Carlson is as good as Edler |

A Canucks fan talking about "cows flying the days the Leafs win the cup" is very ironic. I'm sorry you can't see that. This is the kind of stuff that makes people laugh at Canucks fans. So much unfounded arrogance. |

Ek was mentioning Benn on the main blog. He said Canucks were interested. I still think Kesler's NTC kicks in next Saturday .I would offer that trade. |

Karlsson is bad defensively. Sens don't even trust him on the PK.
I still think Edler is capable of more offensive output, and I believe he'll get more consistent with his defensive play, which is already better than Karlsson's. |
