Somehow I think he will have a decent return before years end. - VANTEL
Who is going to want that horrible contract for an aging goalie who is now known to choke when the pressure is on? I cant see him moving without Vancouver eating at least 1/3 of the contract in the trade and getting scraps in return. |

I understand this. Personally, I dont think the Canucks are going to trade Luongo. He's still a number one in this league. As much as we'd like Schneider to take over now, contractually it doesn't make sense. I'd be shopping Schneider right now. He could bring back something useful for our team.
Question though... how do salary buyouts work in the new CBA? If they are the same as previously, would the team be able to pre-empt the Luongo rule in the CBA by buying him out before he retires? The cap penalty would last for more seaons, but it would be a much smaller percentage I think. - nucks_94
You might be as dumb as Esplen if you think Schnieder signed without a guarantee he is the starting goalie. They're not going to pay Lu 5.4 to be a backup. |

I'm thinking Gillis gets Rielly or Gardiner in the deal.
I can't see the Leafs moving Gardiner if the plan is to make the playoffs this year. they need him.
Rielly is a couple years out of making an impact. I could see him being moved and Gillis is pretty stuck on getting a 1st rd pick in the deal.

Ok I thought you meant Miller , when you said aging goalie that always chokes. I guess 2 more years of bad goaltending isn't bad |

This deal seems imminent. Not crazy about it, but I'll play along.
As VANTEL mentioned above. If the playoffs are the Leafs' objective, including Gardiner makes 0 sense.
As for Rielly, the kid is arguably the best D prospect out there at the moment. Highly doubtful he's moved.
In light of the events of the past 24 hours, nothing has changed in terms of Luongo's contract, Vancouver's cap space, the potential "goalie controversy" brewing and holes up front, in particular 2C/3C (with Kesler's annual surgery/injury)
That said, I could see a C + W or D + conditional pick going to Vancouver.
C - I could see Connolly, but Bozak seems more likely
W - Can't say I'd be surprised if Ashton was included
D - All signs point to Franson, a good ol' BC going home. Would make a great 4-6 (especially if Edler might be moving on) and #2 PP D
Pick - A 3rd to start or a 2nd if the Leafs make the playoffs
Offer:
Bozak + Ashton OR Frason + 2013 3rd (2nd if Leafs make playoffs)
for
Luongo + (Maybe take Raymond)
I think BOTH teams could live with this deal. |

Best bet: See how our goalies play behind an actually defensive system.
Again, you put Brodeur or Lundqvist behind Wilson's Leafs, and they'd struggle.
See if Reimer is healthy. See what Scrivens/Rynnas can do behind a defensive system. - Feeling Glucky?
And a new goalie coach...

If the asking price is seriously Gardiner or Rielly you have to think the leafs would just trade one of them to someone else for a younger goalie anyways. |

Because I wouldn't miss any of them.
I sincerely doubt that's enough, though. |
