The ones I saw were at Skate Zone, but I'm sure you can buy one online if the local Modell's has any

It's going to be real interesting to see what happens with some players with the new CBA. Players such as Wade Redden. His playing career may be pretty much over.

I actually think Redden will be helped. Rangers will likely buy him out this summer & he can sign a reasonable deal for a short term elsewhere.

Luongo is under contract for 10 more years. Why would Holmgren want that headache? I could see going after Luongo if his contract is bought out.

you're talking about the guy who tried to sign shea weber til he was 86

I think the Rangers wanting to buy him out this Summer is pretty much a given. The question is where does he play this year? If they send him down, and eat the Cap hit, and he get's injured to the point where an injury could linger into the Summer. They can't buy him out. So do they just keep him on the Rangers as a healthy scratch, who never plays? How much value would a 36 year old player have at that point.

When can the buyouts begin? Is there any restrictions like 1 per season or can 2 be bought out as soon as allowed?

During the Ordinary Course buyout periods in June of 2013, and 2014 . Each team is allowed 2 compliance buyouts, total.

Well, his getting injured is kind of a wild card...He did miss time last year, but he returned for the post season. If the send him down, he counts as $5.6mm. I'd probably send Eminger down and carry Redden as the 7th guy.

It will. I agree totally if Redden gets hurt in AHL, the Rangers would be faced with a Pronger situation, or at least being stuck with him for an additional season

Ok, so teams can buyout two of these large contracts in June 2013 with no cap hit if they wanted?

That's the risk, even if it's a small risk. If he sustains some type of injury that is bad enough for him to not be cleared during the Summer, so he can't be bought out then. But then he heals and is cleared during the Season, so he can't stay on LTIR all year. The Rangers would be screwed Cap wise. It may be far fetched and the odds low, but possible.

I have no idea what to make of these Luongo rumors. TSN wrote about it, so there must be something there.

i guess i didn't read the article all that closely, but didn't it just say that holmer inquired about luongo? to me, that doesn't say a whole lot by itself. i'd be disappointed if he didn't even inquire, honestly

Pretty much. But it's kind of unusual for a GM to be inquiring about a Goalie when you have one signed to a 9 year long term deal for 51M

Sorry to be a PITA, but why is all of Redden's cap hit burried, but only half of Walkers?

All of Redden's Cap hit isn't buried. They will have 5.6M on the Cap for Redden at a minimum. Unless they trade him.

Here is the formula for a player on a one way deal demoted to the minors.

Cap hit - [NHL minimum salary + $375,000]

Minimum Salary for this Season is $525,000
