Right! You make our case. Why should we give away good prospects, off of our roster and create more holes, for an aging goaltender that kills our chance at a decent draft pick, in a very deep draft? We are not getting in, with or without Luongo. All the teams that were close to us in the standings made better upgrades then we did, at the end of last season. You know, like Jordan Staal to Carolina? It'll be us and the Habs, fighting it out for last in the conference. Why bother to climb by the Islanders and maybe the Sens, to finish 9th or 10th and miss out on MacKinnon, Jones, Drouin, Monahan, Barkov, Katushkin? Get to the top 5 and guarantee yourself a star player. - PrinceLH
If your not first your last. Your probably the most logical post i read here in years. Honestly so many people bark at the oilers but its clearly out of jelousy. On top of that worst part is they hate on canadian teams who become better. Just curious cause in my opinion after 20 years ide be happy with any canadian team winning the cup |

Back to back president's trophys and getting to game 7 of the Finals. Even you Leafs fans must admit that it takes an above average team to do that.
I understand Luongo's contract problems, but he's a terrific goalie. Just trying to encourage you guys to remove the Vancouver hate glasses. - hankthetank
If only you understood he isnt terrific enough to defy contract problems for about 5 years and the fact he is going to be 34 soon.
Maybe you could remove your glasses and accept the Leafs have been down the road of trading youth for mid 30 year olds and we would like to try another method this time.
Again, if he is so good they should keep him instead of trying to get rid of him. |

It's not Vancouver hate. It's being practical. Luongo doesn't fit here. His age is against him, when our core is in their mid 20's. We aren't ready to compete for a playoff spot quite yet. Even if we had Gardiner, and we don't, to start this abreviated season, we aren't getting in. So why waste cap space, for the next 10 years, on a fading goaltender? We need one more top 5 player in the draft, to really start to move forward in the standings. We'll have plenty of cap space, at the end of this year, to make a substantial move, on UFA's, so why waste 10 year of cap on this anchor? |

Thats what I wish my team had. Guys like Schultz, RNH, Hall, Ebs etc.
Not a 34 year old for 10 (frank)ing years.
I find it hilarious the same fans poop on the Leafs for trading youth for old vets, but then turn around and poop on the fans for not wanting to do it. |

Here's the deal, Hankie:
Canucks fans have been quick to guarantee a playoff birth if we trade for Lu. And I accept that; obviously Canucks fans wouldn't write that unless it was true.
But I'm a greedy guy. So If you really want to do this deal, here's what I need:
You need to guarantee a first round series win.
If you can swear that Luongo guarantees that, we have a deal. |

Don't worry, I don't have to remove my glasses to know the Leafs have been one of the worst run NHL teams in recent years. Awful trades. Glad you guys are finally admitting how terrible the Leafs are and accepting that they will once again find themselves near the bottom of the entire league this season.
Gillis believes he has a goalie who can rise to the occasion and is younger and cheaper than Luongo. That's why I wouldn't want to keep him. This has nothing to do with Luongo being a teriffic goalie. |

Dear God, I hope Burke is only doing this to get the guarantee of the playoffs Luongo apparantly comes with, then signs Perry and Getzlaf, cos they come here under a false sense of security. SIgn them up. Then buy the frank out of Luongo. I swear to god if this is the plan, MLSE can have my $1,500 in my savings account and what ever they can get for my banged up 04 Jetta. |

Ill make this as simple as I can for you Canuck fans to understand.
We do not want to take your problems. We dont want to be an old team with bare prospect cupboards, like we once were, and like your team is now. Signing players is not the answer. Not until a core is in place.
We want to win a cup.
In other words, we want to be patient and draft players like Fleury, Malkin, Crosby. Toews, Kane, Seabrook, Staal, Ward, Kopitar, Quick, Doughty etc etc etc like just about all Cup winning teams aside from Detroit do. (Lidstrom, Zetter, Dats...might as well add them too).
The answer is not to buy a team before we develop a team. The core needs to be young. Not mid 30's.
Dont try to sell us your broken model. As a Leaf fan, im aiming higher than taking the scraps and failed models of a cupless team.
get it? - systemtool
Taking our problems. He's not a problem. Hes a trade piece. Like I said, I wouldnt want him to go if we didnt have a good replacement. Which we do. The only reason I want him in someone elses jersey is simply to fill some wholes in our roster.
Its beyond me why you think a goalie who is top three in all statistical catagories in the last five years is a problem.........
O well. Your loss in the long run. Enjoy the cellar. If you're not already. |

I want to see the Oilers lay out some teams and make the playoffs this year. They may be the most exciting team in hockey right now. I want them to do well.
On Vancouver hate, they earned it. They were arrogant, liked to flaunt the rules with diving, wouldn't man up, against the Bruins, savage Luongo and run him out of town, so a goaltender with 60 games under his belt can push him aside. Then their fans can't stop trolling other sites. Vancouver hate? Well earned, indeed.

The Leafs wouldn't be that bad on paper at all, they showed that they can score enough last year and now have added JVR plus Kulemin/Connelly could have better seasons. The defense isn't bad, but not great either and goaltending would be solid with Luongo plus you have a better coach. I wouldn't call them a lock for the playoffs or a team that can get to the second round, but they would certainly be capable of it. |

That's pretty much exactly what happened in Luongo's first year in Vancouver. They went from 92 points to 105 points. Mostly thanks to Luongo. I see both sides of the coin. Was just curious if Leaf fans thought Luongo was a bad goalie or if the contract wasn't worth it. If it's just the contract, I totally get it. But it's the Leaf fans saying they don't want Luongo because he sucks that make me wonder. |

If he's top 3 in statistical value, then why aren't you keeping him? So why is he not good enough for you but good enough for us? We don't want him!!! You signed the ridiculous deal for this guy so he's your worthless asset. |

You guys need to stop asking this question. It makes you look silly. The Canucks have a goalie in Schneider who is younger and cheaper and who they think is capable of taking over for Luongo. That's why they can get rid of Luongo. It's actually quite simple. |

It's not about Luongo for the next two years. It's about after that.
I'd rather have a papercut on my foreskin than that contact four, five, six years out.
And when he retires early, he screws everyone.
No thank you.
But good luck thinking you are getting value in return. |

Haven't made a proposal, actually. But hell of a try there. I would expect nothing less than some judgmental, ignorant comment from you. |
