Serious inquiry, what are the mechanics of a buyout? Specifically, if a guy is bought out, does he become a free agent. And if he is resigned, what becomes the status of the buyout? - TrueGrit
Pretty sure a buyout makes the player an immediate UFA. If I remember right, teams have to wait a year to try to sign that player. They can not buy them out then immediately sign them to a smaller deal. |

I'm not surprised about the list of forwards, but no Leddy? - DarthKane
Perhaps Leddy is the Dman who lost his seat in the game of musical chairs and is headed elsewhere? |

Am I the only one that wants to see what Olesz can do on a line with Bolland and perhaps Shaw? If I remember he is a decent 3rd liner, just got a huge deal in FLA. If his cap hit counts towards the Hawks cap whether he is in the AHL or NHL, I would rather see Saad develop in the AHL and Olesz ply his trade on the 3rd line.
Perhaps forward lines that look like this:
Sharp-Toews-Kane
Stalberg-Kruger-Hossa
Olesz-Bolland-Shaw
Bickell_mayers-Carcillo
Bollig (13th forward), Frolik (press box/14th forward)
Would love for a team needing to get to the cap floor take Frolik/Olesz for a 7th rounder but at their cap hits do you play them in the AHL?

Under the old CBA it didn't. Not sure about the new one. I thought I read that the 2 "freebie" buyouts do not count against the team cap (for the next 2 summers), but they come out of the players piece of the pie |

Bingo. Wiz, you hit the nail on the head.
Q has shown, certainly over his Blackhawks head coaching career (if not his entire career) to be very bull-headed/stubborn regardless of the players lining his bench.
Q's inability to adjust in-game is maybe his biggest flaw, with several others running close behind. I also believe his inability to appropriately and adequately prepare his team with the "right" game plan is something that, like Lovie, will be his downfall. Stubborn insistence on puck possession and cycling will no ability or smarts to adjust to a competitor's defensive scheme is what has pissed me off for so long about Q.
Ogie's point that a monkey could have guided the Stanley Cup winning team to victory isn't far off the mark. - savvyone-1
The aggressive puck possession style was just as important to the amount of talent.
Maybe a hand full of coaches could have won with that team. I would argue the Sharks have had just as much talent and to a certain extent Vancouver has had about equal with "better" goaltending but not able to put it together. Pitt has a ridiculous amount of talent, so does Boston and Philly but neither is a perennial champion.
At a certain point you have to give credit where credit is due. |

To go with that... Look at Phil Jackson.
He has only coached teams with talents but put another coach there and they struggle OR have him coach with less weapons and he struggles.
The NBA is a little different in terms of the amount of talent you need to win and overall strength of the teams in the league but having a loaded team does not mean automatic Cup. |

Youds was just re-called to Rockford from Toledo along with Broadhurst and Svendsen and Gilbert from Bloomington.
I haven't seen anything about a official recall to Chicago, but there may not be one yet until the CBA is ratified.
I would think the recall of Youds would signal Leddy going back to Chicago. |

Either that or demoted.
Just took a quick look at the official roster (not listed there), unofficial depth chart (unbelievably, Dylan Olsen is listed as Right D but no Leddy on either side) -- and -- Leddy is listed on the AHL/Hogs roster.
Lord help us all, we are going to be blessed with clown shoes and Stanley's great off-season acquisitions while Leddy rots in Rockford evidently, mentored by ???? |

Olesz is injured, so I guess you're not going to see what he can do.
As it sits now, all teams are above the cap floor. So there is no concern there.
I've got a feeling the Hawks will run with 13 forwards and 8 defenseman to start the season. |

Brett Lebda!
I don't think there will be any re-calls until both sides ratify the CBA. For what it's worth, Rockford re-called Ben Youds from Toledo. That puts the 'Hogs at 9 defensemen. I can't see them trying to find minutes for 9 guys.
I think the re-call of Youds would signal that Leddy is going to get called up. |

Funny!
Hope you are right, cannot imagine being tortured with ol' Clown Shoes -- heck, he was awful before his brain was scrambled, can only imagine what he'll look like now. With no one to mentor Leddy at either level, he's best off competing in the NHL, at least there he'll have the opportunity to play alongside and against competition that should make him better. He won't get any better in the A.
Tell me, though, why Dylan Olsen is listed on the Blackhawks depth roster though. That is a real puzzler, especially in light of what everyone has seen from him at the NHL level and now at the AHL level (not impressive at all). ???? |

That makes sense. Maybe Rockford needs to get more D-men up before they send Leddy to Chicago. Have you seen Leddy with the Hogs? How is he doing? |

Pre-lockout you had a lot of trade grumblings JJ. Now that they are waiting for ratification, have you heard of any irons in the fire? - ikeane
JUST a minute ago heard there's lots of discussion going on (involving the Hawks—teams calling). I should have more tomorrow or the day after.
Trigger could get pulled on something very soon after the CBA deal is ratified.
Heard about one specific player who might be offered to the Hawks, interesting, but no sense if the hawks are interested. Should know more tomorrow and will not say anything til I know more.

It's been a mess since the lockout.
I think that players cannot be re-called until the CBA is ratified. That seems to be holding up signing UFA's and RFA's, so I would imagine that this would hold up all roster moves.
I would imagine that once the CBA has been ratified, the rosters and depth charts on NHL websites will be tweaked soon afterwards. |
