The Leafs have placed Reimer (knee) on IR, James Mirtle of the Globe and Mail reports.
Recommendation: With Reimer out a week or so, the Leafs have recalled Jussi Rynnas to bolster their netminding corps in the meantime.

I'm not laughing at Reimers injury but how in the blue (frank) is Rynnas bolstering their netminding corps?

Their starting goalie is out, so it makes sense they call up their best AHL goalie from down the street. Nothing strange about it. Should they make a trade for an injury that will see Reimer out only a week?

Don'y worry, based on your farm team, and the GM you've got... you guys are gonna be in for a nice long re-build too.

Probably 5 more years of futility before they even realize they need to rebuild.

Kassian, Schroeder, Tanev, Garrison, Hansen, Raymond are garbage

Bieksa, Burrows, and Kesler are on the decline of their careers already.

So that leaves... Schnieder and Edler.

Amazing future!

yes when you're in denial, everything you've said is true, when you're not in denial...you realize they are better than nearly all leafs...

no he's not, i've heard the same crap about the leafs for a very long time...i dont know if its 6-7 years exactly but leafs fans have always boosted about their great depth on defense (usually ends at the bottom of the league with GA)...and the offense cant help at that point...nothings changing this year so far...kadris been decent though, i'll say that...still worse than hodgson but none the less

You really haven't. Everyone says how terrible the Leafs prospect pool is. They've never had an acclaimed system.

The Islanders get top 5 or 10 picks yearly and never get better.

Media hasnt said that about Toronto in Vancouver much, its the fans that boost about their prospect pool...even though its been crap for so long, and leafs fans have been in denial since the last lockout

I'd take Kassian, in MacLaren's place.

That's about it. Nothing else there remotely interesting.

Perfectly fine by me, because theres nothing on the leafs other than Kadri, JVR and Gardiner that I would welcome on the Canucks

Evey fanbase does that. The vast majority of the media and NHL fans think Toronto has no future and has a horrific prospect pool. They are proving people wrong right now.

I mention the Islanders, because everyone kissing their butts over their AMAZING young talent that never arrives.

They've got amazing young talent on long island...the problem there is management and coaching...sending strome and nino down to the minors where they won't progress as players is insane...they'd do great in the NHL if given the chance AND used properly...

With Wang as an owner and being a cap floor team they'll never get better. The Leafs have a better future.

I agree about Wang and I dont think thats actually true about the leafs being better personally, yes they're playing better because they've got a better coach and not nearly as stupid management like wang and snow steering the ship...but i would take tavares, strome, nino, and reinhart over kessel, lupul, kadri and gardiner any day

2.25 GAA for the team
.930 SV%

Unsustainable but at this point those are some nice stats.

I'm not that sure about "unsustainable"... it's not a product of the goalies playing above they're heads, it's the team eliminating 2nd and 3rd scoring chances, and the goalies learning to throw their rebounds to safe areas.

They're not doing well as a fluke, they're doing well because they've bought into Carlyle's system.

They're a young team, so it's very possible they'll forget what got them the points, and fall back to bad habits from time to time... But as long as they keep bouncing back to the system, the'r numbers will look good.

i would say you're both right. Even if they keep playing well, those kind of stats are better than any team in the league generally gets. The best team averages in the entire league last year, weren’t as good. I would agree that the stats are going to look much better this year, but I highly doubt they remain that high. I highly doubt any team in the league remains that high. Maybe we fall a bit, down to the level of the Canucks (although, they’ll probably fall from where they are, so we’d still be better)

Reimer at .929 SV% is Lundqvist-like. Scrivens at .939 is Tim Thomas stuff. Toronto's D isn't good enough to keep them at that level all year either. They're not exactly the 2011-2012 Blues. I'd expect a drop off.

I think at the end of the season their stats will be respectable still though. Definitely good enough to squish any Luongo to Toronto rumours.

I suspect Vancouver is equally as happy there was no Luongo to anywhere trade. Schneider has not looked like a number one goalie at all this year. Given his brief resume, I think they'd better be careful about how they handle these two.

Schneider has been ok so far this year. Luongo right now is probably the better goalie though. Unless Vancouver plans on adding salary at the trade deadline they're probably better off keeping Luongo anyway to be honest. Their cup window isn't exactly getting bigger and having Luongo there as insurance is huge.

Not an easy situation though. Try run the numbers through cap geek for next year. Without Luongo gone, there is virtually no way of getting under the cap. A Ballard buyout, Booth trade, and I still don't think they're there.
