I think you miss the point. The more they wait, with Luongo in particular, the worse the deal will get.

When you trade for someone that you hope will get you 3 or 4 years of solid play, and for that, you're taking on another 3 or 4 years of contract liability, time becomes an issue. If you wait another year, that becomes 2 or 3 years of solid play, with 3 or 4 years of contract liability.

When the contract years that are an issue and a liability for a player outnumber the years that you acquire him for, you'd better start planning on adding assets for someone to take him. And if it gets to next summer, that's going to start to be the situation.

If the Oilers werent having such problems down the middle, I am guessing most oilers fans wouldnt mind having Luongo also...not that Dubnyks the worst...but i'm thinking luongo would be an upgrade...the only problem with that is the cap hit would really hurt the oilers in particular...but they may need an upgrade in goaltender soon...i'd personally want bernier if i were the oilers...the leafs on the other hand are screwed entirely in the future without a goaltender...

I would be if I were them. The only team in the league with more points from the shootout is Nashville. They're not playing well, barely scraping by and picking up points by shootout. When you're playing like crap, and getting lucky with points like that, it can turn around on you pretty quickly.
