So, you're saying a goalie's career is generally over at 36?

Actually, no, most of us didn't want to trade a bag of pucks for Lu. Most didn't want him at all.

honest non troll question....

Do you guys figure you'lll make the playoffs?

I think its possible, if you stay healthy and continue to get mediocre goaltending.

sounds honest enough to me

The Canucks are in big crap on the goaltending front. A massive contract that no one will take, and a 26 year old who can't take the starter's job, with a $4M contract.

That's dead true. Think about it. If they keep going with Luongo, and Schneider can't play well, that means they can't trade Luongo. Think of how little demand there was until now. If that gets to next summer, and Luongo is a year older, they are likely completely stuck with him. They may end up forced to keep their old declining goalie, and trading off their young, overpaid one.

The longer this goes, the harder it will be to trade Luongo, and the more screwed they are. Schneider not cutting it is possibly the worst thing that could happen to them long term.

Either way, they're stuck with $10M in goaltending, can't trade one, and don't want to trade the other. You may think it's nice to have two NHL caliber goalies (although, Schneider hasn't really established himself as a full time number 1 goalie), but it's a bad situation, only getting worse right now.

Keep laughing. See how it works out. Watch how badly they scramble by the end of the year. When the cap goes down next year, they're going to have a seriously hard time getting under it. They're already possibly the team with the worst situation cap-wise for next season.

They are in no hurry. You cant blame them for waiting for the best deal possible. He's worth more than you think.

All things considered?

Riemer is a far better option for just about any team in the league.

Younger, cheaper, no chance of a team having to continue to pay for him years after his retirement.

Better option, unless you're planning on going for a cup these next two seasons, and then buying him out... though even then, Lou's probably just going to choke again.

In any case, Lou's of no use to Vancouver or Toronto.

As I said, enjoy missing the playoffs because thats exactly what they will do, and theres no goaltending help in their system... what a joke

Unless Luongo can score goals for the Leafs they'd be missing the playoffs with him in net as well. Reimer is the better option in Toronto right now. Laughing won't make it untrue.

I think you miss the point. The more they wait, with Luongo in particular, the worse the deal will get.

When you trade for someone that you hope will get you 3 or 4 years of solid play, and for that, you're taking on another 3 or 4 years of contract liability, time becomes an issue. If you wait another year, that becomes 2 or 3 years of solid play, with 3 or 4 years of contract liability.

When the contract years that are an issue and a liability for a player outnumber the years that you acquire him for, you'd better start planning on adding assets for someone to take him. And if it gets to next summer, that's going to start to be the situation.
