I didn't even say most top 10 picks are busts anyway. I said most prospects amount to nothing more than depth players or worse. He brought up the top 10 thing, and it just so happens that even a large number of those picks don't amount to much.

Disagree. Scouting is getting much better, Top 5 picks almost always end up better than depth players (which is where Toronto would draft if they traded Kessel)

5-10 overall more of a gamble.

You can disagree if you want but I already posted a list of top 10 picks with nearly half of them being depth players or worse.

But of course now you're saying top 5 picks! Leafs probably can't get a top 5 pick for Kessel, which is entirely what I was commenting on originally anyway. Even if they did most top 5 picks don't end up as good as Kessel, though they generally end up being solid players. Guys picked in the 1-2 slot seem to have a good shot at being at least as good if not better but who's going to give them a top 2 pick for Kessel? It'd likely be a playoff team that'd be after him so it'd be a mid rounder if I were to guess.

The Leafs themselves would probably get a top 5 with their own pick without him but they might just end up in that spot anyway. If the goal was only to get their own draft pick that low they'd be better off trading other assets that are more easily replaceable in the future.

Anyway, we're going in circles here lol.

The reason I said top 5 (again) is because trading Kessel would ensure your own pick would be top 5.

Improving your draft pick is factored into the value of trading Kessel

It's funny, Schnieder and poopcakes also have the same number of letters... and start with the same one!

PS-Kadri kicked ass last night- how'd Schneider do?

Gotta say that Van should keep Lou and trade Schneider.

Lou? Proven.

Schneids? Maybe great, but hasn't proved he can do it long term.

Schneids gives you a better return and is safer to bet against than Lou

But honestly I don't think either get dealt until 20 games into the season.

Too many teams "evaluating" their goaltending situation.

My guess is whoever has the worst goaltending between Edmonton/Toronto/Chicago at that 20ish game mark ends up with Lou.

According to reports they have the assets gillis wants but are unwilling to give them up at this time. As long as Reimer is playing the way he is there is no reason to deal for luongo anyways.

Kadri would be their top player if they had managed to acquire him. No poop we've got assets they want.

why would we trade for him when we're getting good goaltending?

And seriously, do you think you can afford to trade him anyway? Look at your crappy 26 year old backup.....

The Canucks are in big crap on the goaltending front. A massive contract that no one will take, and a 26 year old who can't take the starter's job, with a $4M contract.

The hottest goalie in the league is available and a goalie with one of the NHL's most promising futures.

Gillis is sure looking smart for holding on.

honest non troll question....

Do you guys figure you'lll make the playoffs?

I think its possible, if you stay healthy and continue to get mediocre goaltending.

So, you're saying a goalie's career is generally over at 36?

Man, you guys are really screwed with Luongo then.
