Kessel, Lupul(both ppg last season), JVR(11 goals on the year- more than any oiler, in fact even if you combined your top-2 goal scorers, they'd only have 1 more goal than him, Frattin(ppg thus far, would also lead the Oilers in goalscoring, despite only 10 games played), Kulemin(very strong defensive player)... those are 5 very good wingers. 3 guys who could safely play on top lines of most teams in the league.
And while the oilers are playing all-out attack hockey, the Leafs have a defense-first system.
Not saying we have the best winger depth, but it's pretty damn good.
The goaltending has been stelar, and the team is buying into the defensive system from top to bottom, while still being dangerous on the attack. First time in many years they look like a legit team. - Feeling Glucky?
Kessel is good so cant argue that. Lupul has had one really good season and a bunch of injuries. JVR and Frattin have never played like this so i think you should give them more time to see if they keep it up. Kulemin seems like a pretty good third liner |

Yeah, it’s interesting, there are a few teams that have been given some pretty big boosts from points in the shootout, or so-called “loser points”. Toronto actually has 0 so far. They’re tied for the most regulation and overtime wins in the Eastern conference.
Also interesting, looking at the standings, there have been much less shootout games in the East compared to the West. There have been 11 shootouts in the East, compared to 24 in the West. More three point games means that the points required to make the playoffs will likely be higher in the West in comparison to the East. There is a pretty big point difference from 7th to 8th place in the East, as well, along with the 3rd seed, Carolina right now, having the same number of points as those teams. This has an interesting effect. In order for any of the teams that are 7th and up to fall out of a playoff spot, Not only Philly and Tampa have to pass them, but Carolina too. Otherwise, if Tampa takes over the Southeast lead, and Philly grabs a couple more wins, the Canes drop from third, straight out of a playoff spot. |

Do you expect Vancouver to win their next two games?
Because that would only tie them for wins with the Leafs.
PS, and you'd still be back 2 in ROW, provided you don't need the shootout to win those coming games. |

Me too. Currently on a 9 game road trip that has an excellent chance of derailing the entire season. My bitterness is an acidic pill.Im so tired of talking about "the future". I just want them to win. |

2 rookie players (as good as they are) and Fistric weren't realistically going to take the Oilers from the 2nd worst team in the NHL to playoffs immediately.
We are only 2 points out of a playoff spot now, so I am not so sure why Oiler fans are creeping towards the ledge.
The Oilers top players are very young and inexperienced. We will be a good team in time as our talent matures but nobody should expect overnight success. Tambellini does need to grow some stones and change up the build of the team a bit though. That's been evident for a while. |

With the kind of names being chucked around for defensemen being shopped (Yandle, Leopold, Streit would all help, even Boyle's name has been out there!) I hope we hang on to at least dip our toes in the trade deadline waters. |

You need a shut down defenseman for sure...and you need more stable goaltending, even in the back up position for the future... |

I think the Leafs have the best depth at wing in the entire NHL. It's pretty ridiculous. Kessel, Lupul, JVR, Kulemin, Frattin, Macarthur.
Guys like Kadri not being the "Bust" everyone pegged him as helps their future at centre. - RogerRoeper
I still think this is true. Ridiculous depth on the wing. And I even left out Komorov, who's an effective pest. |

This much laughter must mean you believe it's amongst the worst depth in the entire NHL then?
Thanks for your educated opinion.
Enjoy the long rebuilding years in Vancouver. |

Yes
P.S. why would I care? Hodgson is no longer on the Canucks...I wish him the best in his career and thats all there is to it...I'll never cheer for Kadri or the Leafs because of fans like yourself |

I see no issue with the Leafs goaltending right now. Is it perfect? No, But it's far exceeded expectations and they have some nice young talent in net. |

Eff Gunnarsson. I rode an elevator with him and Schenn in TB and I could probably snap his pencil neck with one hand. We don't need d like him.
I also got the feeling that if I told Schenn a riddle he would have an aneurysm. |

I certainly see no issue now Bernier/Reimer are a promising young duo to have. No team has two goalies that are so young and good. |
