52 game season?
What really matters now’”, writes Cox “is both sides want to get as many games in as possible, and a deal in the next two or three days might allow for a 52-game schedule rather than a 48-gamer.” |

It's going to be a laughfest, when they trade Luongo and Schneider falls flat on his face, ala Andrew Raycroft. The crowd will turn on their beloved Canucks and chant for the management to be fired. The downfall of the Canucks empire and it's unfulfilled promises. Something like the U.S. Democrats, with tears in their eyes, chanting Barack, Barack, as he concedes the Presidency to Romney! - PrinceLH

Habs will finish 9th in the conference, miss the playoffs and miss one of the great draft picks, in this shortened season..........will that do? |

That is all true. But the league is also bumping up against its own deadline for canceling the season and directive by some of the most powerful owners on a BoG that a canceled season is not an option. Basically, we've gotten to the point where the two sides have no choice but to compromise enough to strike a deal. - bmeltzer
Which means another work stoppage at the end of this "new" CBA. I still don't believe we will have a season this year. |

A little known fact. Mark Twain supported the south, during the Civil War. Samuel Clemons(Mark Twain) served on the Mississippi at the start of the war, then left for California. |

This is why they need to add a provision in each CBA that states if a new CBA isn't in place by the start of the upcoming season then that season will be cancelled... - Flyfreaky
Great idea!
This would be the most important element of the new CBA, but sadly enough this is FAR TOO practical, reasonable and intelligent for these two groups of greedy a-holes. |

It's like Public Sector workers. They always have their collective agreements end in either May or June, so they don't have to walk on a picket line, during cold and snowy weather.

Seriously, if the League/Owners and Players are as genuine about "just wanting to get back on the ice" as they been saying throughout this entire process, why wouldn't a provision like this be added to the new CBA?
It doesn't benefit one side more than the other and the deadlines "to negotiate" would be bumped up to the summer and early September. With EVERYTHING FOR AN ENTIRE SEASON on the line, both sides would have way more motivation to sort this crap out. |
