An NHL player, who requested anonymity, says the NHL made a new offer to the NHLPA on Thursday, one which moved on contract term limits, buyouts and variance, according to TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun. NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly would not confirm what the player said when reached for comment.

NHL caving

The owners made a new proposal? How long before the PA rejects it? Or asks for even more?

The Gomez clause

Pierre LeBrun ‏@Real_ESPNLeBrun

New offer sees each team afforded one compliance buyout prior to 2013-14 season. Doesn't count vs. cap but it does vs. players' share

There it is, the NHL's 11th hour offer. Now we'll see if the PA actually wants to play this season or if they have a secret agenda.

the clause is for next year though....Habs can still suck for a half season playing Gomez 20min per game....

Gomez will make 4.5M next year (last year of his deal) but his cap hit is 7.3M....big impact on the Habs cap

It sounds like you nailed this one on the head Ek. The big question is, will it be accepted? or will there even be a counter offer.
It doesn't look like the NHLPA wants to negotiate anymore, and that deFuhr is hellbent on seeing this through to court.

Nothing regarding progress on TSN or anywhere else for that matter.

Mackenzie is reporting that Ek was the first to know of NHL offer and isn't denying the offer. Man, maybe unicorns do exist

Like the players were calling for a vote "unofficially" through sources and twitter, etc after the player / owner meetings. deFuhr shut that down in a hurry didn't he. "We can get more". he chose the executive and negotiating committee well, all hard liners, no moderates allowed that might ask a hard question. The players follow that committee as much as deFuhr himself.
- gstrandberg

There was no call for a vote after the player/owner meeting. That is pure fantasy that has somehow grown into a fact here on Hockeybuzz. The vote for DOI tells you all you need to know. If the players wanted to vote on any offer made during the meeting. The results of the DOI vote would have been opposite. That it was so overwhelming in favor of DOI, tells you that the players weren't happy with any offer made.

Agreed. Ek's job is not easy. And if this comes through, many posters will owe him an appology (which will never happen).

If Fehr doesn't have some other agenda. If this is true, how do you guys feel about NBA sign and trades now entering the NHL? I never liked it but whatever at this point
